Audi announced today that the 2011 A8 flagship sedan will be the first car in the world to offer an optional factory-installed WLAN hotspot for wireless Internet access.

Another stupid configuration add-on from Audi bag of lame car options. I think the company want some advertisement press as first company to offer this as an option....... First was the finger recognition keypad and now this....

I think AUDI want to bring as much add-on as possible to compete with the good selling BMW 7 series and the S-Class from MB.

I LOOOOOOVE the "finger" recognition keypad. It doesn't just tell you that that it's a finger on the pad, it tells you which one. Now when I give the finger to BMW drivers, I'm always assured of using the correct one.

all A8's come with 3G access for the Google Naviagation overlay anyway so the hotspot is a natural ideal.

I guess if BMW has this first it would have been a smart idea! WI-FI in the car is a great idea, and one that will be used and copied by everyone. Its the natural progression.

This should be offered in GM vehicles since we have to pay $30/month for Onstar anyway...
