So, What's It Gonna Be? The Mulsanne OR The Ghost?

So, What's It Gonna Be? The Mulsanne OR The Ghost?
Even when you're the sausage king of Chicago or Ralph Lauren, sometimes in life there are hard choices.

Example "A," picking the Bentley or the Rolls-Royce.

I know, I know, if this is your biggest problem you probably have a helluva life. But for those trust fund types or Park Avenue finance guys, this is a plight that may need some assistance.

So, lend a helping hand and voice your thoughts.

What's it gonna be?

Autocar reports:

Old rivalries enter a new era with the arrival of the Bentley Mulsanne alongside the Rolls-Royce Ghost. Steve Cropley makes a tough call.

Why not Mulsanne versus Phantom?

Rolls-Royce is perfectly happy for its number two model (at least in price, if not capability or quality) to be compared with Bentley’s new number one. Bentley, predictably, is keener for the Mulsanne to be seen as a Phantom rival, arguing that its car, already around £30,000 more expensive than a Ghost, can easily cost £260k-plus by the time you’ve added the bespoke features the company wants every owner to consider. But then Rolls owners buy bespoke options too...

Given this (gentlemanly) disagreement, our casting vote was to match Ghost and Mulsanne – because both are relatively practical cars, well able to be used every day, whereas the Phantom is so large, imposing and valuable that it’s almost ceremonial....

Ghost, the Mulsanne in cartoonish car.

Usually I would say Bentley over Rolls but RR hit the nail on the head with the Ghost. What an exceptional vehicle.

I would want to sport up the Ghost tastefully though, think BMW sport package "Shadowline" trim and tasteful rims.

It's ironic. Rolls Royce have known to be more modern-styled but in this scenario it's the Ghost that looks more up to date than the Mulsanne.

Front end: Ghost
Rear: Mulsanne

Ghost for me. I would even take the now quite old Arnage over the 'abnormal face' Mulsanne.

Heck yeah! Agreed.

The Ghost is my favorite RR b/c it's not as huge. An everyday ultra-lux that I can drive without needing a periscope to navigate. But I'd still pick an Arnage T over the new Mulsanne.

Ghost next question

The more I read about both cars, the harder it is to make up my mind.

In the end, it all comes down to this: the Bentley is stately both inside and out, while the Ghost is more personal. If I were to include the Phantom, then it's the Phantom hands down - or Phantom EWB because I'm American :)

Ghost hands down for me.

Mulsanne looks like a Chrysler Cordoba.

Disgusting face.

Rolls Royce is far more prestigious a brand that Bentley even when they were essentially identical cars the Rolls Royce was positioned above the equivalent Bentley in both price and prestige.

The Ghost looks like a dressed up 7 series with a shiny grill(and is). The bentley is a proper coach car and retains its old school presence. Mulsanne hand down.

uh... what? The Ghost looks absolutely NOTHING like a 7-Series. Do Bentley's look like Audi's or VW's just because they happen to share parts under the skin you can't see? No. Same for the Ghost -- the underlying architecture came from the new 7-Series but they don't look even remotely similar other than the fact they're both large sedans. If that's the only requirement then the Bentley looks as much like a 7-Series as the Ghost does.

Mulsanne for me, but I would love to drive both in order to make the best decision.

I'd have to be driven in both to decide!

jrobusc, u sound a little upset. must be a grain of truth in what i wrote. the ghost looks more like an A8 then the mulsanne does. the Mulsanne is sculpted. i like the rolls but its paneled.

The Rolls looks like a sporty Rolls. The Bentley looks like a Bentley. They don't look like each other, or like a 7er, A8, Phaeton, S-class, Maybach, or any other large car, other than the fact that they're all big and have four wheels and food doors with an engine up front.

Ghost for me. It's absolutely stunning from every angle. The Muslanne's front end is disturbing.

A smaller RR is not a real RR in my book -- so I'll take a Mulsanne. However, I would take the previous generation LWB RR over any of them. The new RR looks too boxy for my taste.

Is the Bentley Arnage RL totally out of production now?
