Toyota will launch a seven-seat MPV version of its Prius hybrid next March.

Called Prius Alpha, it could get an upgrade to lithium ion batteries.

The new variant will sit on the same basic platform as the regular model and use the same 1.8-litre petrol engine, but it will offer a third row of seats. The car’s bodywork will be around 300mm longer than the regular car’s...

I would love to see more 7-seaters available, and not the jumbo minivan we now have in the US either but more like the size of Mazda 5, the MB B-class, Kia Rondo, etc. Very practical for a typical family of 4, can carry stuff, and not too big to make it cumbersome in the city. And if that 7-seater happens to come with clean diesel or hybrid, all the better. So YES Toyota, go for it. As for the rendering, it looks fine to me.
