SPIED: Is BMW's Next-Gen M5 Too Subtle, Just Right OR Too Flamboyant?

SPIED: Is BMW's Next-Gen M5 Too Subtle, Just Right OR Too Flamboyant?
BMW's upcoming M5 may be the second most covered topic in the spy photography world, right behind the mystery 1-Series. And, with good reason.

The latest shots, which depict a black prototype M5 undergoing testing, seem to show a rather mundane looking car. Is this something to worry about?

Remember, when BMW first starting producing these special M cars, the goal was to have a subtle and high-performing machine. Not a car that made every enthusiast try to take you down at the next red light.

From what we can see in these great shots, it looks like there will be some X5/6M-like aggressive venting, HUGE brakes and the infamous quad-tipped exhaust.

That's all I need, what about you?

Bimmerpost reports:

The 2012 F10 M5 continues making its testing rounds, but for the first time has been spotted with camoflaged production intent rear bumper and sideskirts. Stay tuned as the M5's striptease continues...

so... you're asking people to form an opinion on the aggressiveness of the car based on a test mule with wheels and bumpers on it that won't match production, plus all the rest of the production design lines, curves, and creases hidden by swirly camo? Does that appropriately sum up this thread?

C'mon JRob you've been around long enough to know that test mules this late in the game show a lot of what is coming.

Example "A," the spied E92 M3 had pronounced fender flares and a bumped up hood where as the M5 has no flare whatsoever.

Stop being sour.

Since there isn't one to look at I closed my eyes and imagined one and it was OK, then I did it again and it was awesome, and then I imagined it again and it was cool, and then I stopped and thought "this is a stupid waste of time".

JRob - that is one of the funniest posts I've ever read on here! I'm with you, man - let's wait until we see some official pics and/or real life photos...

I say it's a winner. I get deboosted. Someone else says that it "looks great" and he gets a positive boost? Thought this wasn't supposed to be personal?

looks great to me. stealthy, overwhelming force is always a good way to go.

Looks amazing. Not a fan of the chrome on the handles though

I honestly can't tell yet, but I'm hoping they make the front end a lot more aggressive, it's the only criticism I have of the new 5 series

I want swirly camo on mine... is it a dealer installed option?

What a stupid thread.

So far, it looks soft....so it is better to wait till final product is out..but I am sure it will look very nice.

1) dumb thread
2) I always liked the subtle styling, rather than the flare, for powerful performance sedans.

Too subtle. Needs to get a lot more aggressive.
