DRIVEN: An '08 550i Owner DRIVES And TELLS About The '11 5-Series
In the world of auto journalism it is laughable how some firm's are so biased. Sure, some publications have a lean towards a certain amount of performance and sure some company's desire certain attributes -- that is fine.

But when someone starts stammering on about Middle-Eastern chic qualities in what is largely considered an abomination, something is wrong.

So, what better way to show how impressive the all-new 2011 BMW 5-Series is then by a forum member's remarks about a recent test drive?

Read on below...

Bimmerpost reports:

This evening I test drove a new 535 F10 at Elmhurst BMW is suburban Chicago. As an architect I am into the aesthetic of the car in addition to the driving performance. First of all it was noticeably larger than my 2008 550. The front of the car has noticeably more volume with the vertical nose of the car creates a larger front end volume. The additional 2 creases on the hood emanating from the BMW medallion look really cool. The front windshield has more rake or slope than the E60 giving the car a more sleek appearance. The rear of the car appears wider with more presence than the E60. It is probably due to less taper on the sides toward the rear of the car than the E60. The overall design is clearly more conservative than the E60 which broke new ground and was widely emulated. The F10 builds upon the BMW formal language and has an incredibly elegant, refined exterior envelope.

The cabin fit and finish is incredibly impressive, definitely two steps above the E60. The ultra refined interior has rich, well detailed finishes and shapes. The ergonometrics of the F10 are incredibly well executed....

Wow...didn't realize how much of a larger car this thing was until seeing it parked next to the E60!

The F10 is much bigger and looks a lil plain jane at the same time but this works for the 5. it has sort of a new redesigned E39 look to it which is most peoples favorite. But I have to say my favorite is the Bangle edition 5 looks more unique than any other bimmer made during his reign. But the new car looks great I have to admit

it looks like they are making the 5 series the size of the A6 and E class

Definitely a bigger looking car in the flesh vs. the old E60.

Think mini 7-series.

Weight has also gone up considerably. The new 550i comes in at just under 4400 lbs........

In case others didn't notice: Both cars are straddling a handicapped parking space.

It's interesting to hear what a surely unbiased BMW owner thinks about a BMW. Especially on Autospies, the home of balanced reporting and rational thought from it's members.

This is going to have to grow on me like the last one. I just hope that it doesn't take until the last 2 production years for me to like it.
