NEW School Vs The OLD School: 300SL "Gullwing" Vs. SLS AMG

NEW School Vs The OLD School: 300SL
We did it once before and we're doing it again.

Although it may be hard to compare a car from more than 40 years ago to a modern supercar, you have to remember that both vehicles have one thing in common; passion.

And when you're buying a supercar, sometimes that is all that matters. I mean, why else would you plop down approximately $400,000 on a Lexus LFA when you can get a Nissan GT-R that will go just as fast? If you come from that school of thought you'll just never get it.

This neatly brings us to our latest subjects: the Mercedes-Benz 300SL "Gullwing" and brand new SLS AMG. No matter how you slice it both cars bring forth a tremendous amount of styling and even the new car has a vintage quality about it.

But when it comes down to it, which are you taking home?

Modern sophistication and speed beyond your wildest imagination, OR that sense of purity from the 1950s.

It's your call, really...

They could have made the new goldwing door more "elegant" looking like the previous version if they made it out of Carbon Fiber, but they did it on the cheap and charge a lot of money.

Yeah, Goldwings are good bikes if you like the big cruiser style. I like sport bikes better though.

Both are beautiful in their own way. Given the rarity of the Gullwing I would love to have one and just baby it in my living room!

I didn't realize the new gullwing was this big! Or is it that the old gullwing was that small?

I think that it is too bad that Mercedes has lost all ability to design a hot car to the point that they have to go back in history and copy/remake one of the most classic designs ever made. With the exception of the SLS..which is not really an original design...all MB knows how to design is cars that have the profile of a wedge or a bannana..low front high back. Boring.

Old SL definitley a better looking, more iconic vehicle. Classier and sexier. New Gullwing is more of a hypercar. I prefer the round headlights and the sloping rear of the classic sl. Wish it wouldve carried over to the new model. As well as the rear windows.

I have to plan extra time on my errands because when I come back out to the parking lot, a crowd has gathered around the car. People absolutely love this car! More than I had expected. They take pictures of it from their car in traffic. I looked in my rearview mirror yesterday to see a driver actually sticking his head out of his window, looking back at this car. It's fun to see how much people appreciate this automobile and want to hear the details. Needless to say, it's incredible and fun to drive it. No issues whatsoever. Fit and finish is flawless. Power is outrageous! Iridium silver, red leather, Bang & Olufsen, forged aluminum wheels.
