BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition runs 1013 miles on single tank!
Motoring journalist and TV presenter Tom Ford has managed to complete what he claims to be a record-breaking journey from the UK to Munich and almost back to Britain with a BMW 320d EfficientDynamics saloon on a single tank of fuel.

Filled up at the Channel Tunnel, the new BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Saloon made it to Munich, then as far as Lille on the return leg – a staggering total of 1,013 miles on a single tank of fuel – before needing to be refuelled.

The full story was presented today in a press release by BMW. The BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition is available only in Europe.

BMW’s cleanest and greenest 3 Series ever has just completed a record-breaking journey from the UK to Munich and back – on one tank of fuel.

Filled up at the Channel Tunnel, the new BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Saloon made it to Munich, then as far as Lille on the return leg – a staggering total of 1,013 miles on a single tank of fuel – before needing to be refuelled.

To put it in a UK geographic context, the distance achieved would have meant being able to drive from Land’s End to John O’Groats, and still having 200 miles range left in the tank.

Who said diesels aren't good still. I think that's very impressive. A Ford Fusion hybrid went 1,445 miles in a single tank!. Cars are doing great. That's why there is no need to start flame wars. Not all people cross-shop a Lexus Prius hs250h and a 3 series. Sorry just bored. Show us some exciting articles 001.!

I hate that N.A. drivers/buyers NEED, CRAVE and associate powerful engines with luxury vehicles. I'm happy to have the 3-series chassis to carve a few corners on on/off ramps on my daily commute. Absolute speed isn't necessary nor neck breaking acceleration in our ticket happy society (not to mention city coffers needing the revenue). I like the technology and creature comforts also.

It's not about a 320d would "suck" cause it's so slow, it's a good cabin/chassis to be in. Europe gets it...hopefully some day the German makes understand and bring us a wider range of engines. Canadians get it, but until the Americans do, we'll never see this engine. Branding is over rated! You should pay a premium for the CHASSIS....not the brand.

The problem with most American luxury shoppers is that big horsepower output looks good on paper and sounds nice when they brag about their engine at their local golf club. But do most buyers ever use all that power?

No.

A 320d would be awesome for the US. Count me in as a potential buyer. I've rented entry-level diesel cars in Europe before and I don't understand what all the fuzz about them being "slow" is about. These cars are zippy and have high top speeds to.

I also think a big problem in the US are our car magazines. Notice how they always emphasize performance, performance and more performance. A European car review seems to focus more on the things that matter like interior space, payload capacity etc.

I'll trade my 2007 Civic in for this car tomorrow, the gas savings will pay for its self, there has to be a conspiracy theory as to why this car isn't here in North America? They can't say that it wouldn't go over, it is almost twice as efficient and powerful as a Prius, now that is green.
