TATA To Take Jaguar Land Rover Back, But Does Anyone Care?

TATA To Take Jaguar Land Rover Back, But Does Anyone Care?
After coming across AutoExpress' recent piece on Jaguar Land Rover, it seems that Tata will be reinvigorating both brands. But, we have to ask:

Does anyone care?

At first glance it seems absolutely because Land Rover is an iconic brand that has made significant headway in recent years, particularly with its Range Rover Sport. And if spy images reveal anything about its future, the LRX two-door concept looks like it is going to be "off the chain."

Now, at second glance things get a bit dreary because I cannot recall a time when I was excited for any Jaguar product besides the 2002 XJR. Am I alone here?

Hopefully Jaguar follows other industry leaders by making the upcoming F-type true to concept form. If it gets diluted too much, we could have another XJ situation on our hands.

Don't get me wrong, the XJ is an interesting piece of machinery and it has a remarkable interior. But, the exterior can be best described as a mix and match that would make me assume a Jaguar designer got lost in France for a couple of years and then came back to finish off the tail end of the car.

What say you, Spies? Am I on point or totally off base?

AutoExpress reports:

A new sports car, a fourth Range Rover, a BMW 3-Series rival and an executive estate, plus new factories in China, exciting engines and a return of focus to innovation... Under Tata control, Jaguar Land Rover will be more ambitious, says top boss Carl-Peter Forster. The man in charge of making it happen is Ralf Speth, and he told us it’s time to put the pedal to the metal!

The F-Type was first seen in the form of the XK180 concept back in 1998, but the project has been constantly delayed as the company struggled with its finances. But now, thanks to the promise of £1bn of investment every year for the next five years by new Indian owner Tata, a driver-focused sports car is imminent...

Tata is trying to reinvigorate the brand, thus, "taking it back" to their old school lively brand(s).

It is a bit of a misleading headline. I was a little confused at first as well, until I read a few lines into the article.

I've seen and sat in the new Xj- it's a beautiful car with a jaw dropping interior and plenty of power. Would I change the back end?
Absolutely. But then again there's things I'd change on the 7 series and S-class too.

It's a great car and provides an alternative to the other big sedans out there.

Yup, I agree, but I found the dashboard wood an extreme fingerprint magnet. It needs extra care.

The new XJ is a very distinctive and attractive automobile. That goes for the rear end as well. This knee jerk reaction against anything remotely unique is beyond annoying. It's no wonder automotive design tends to be so undifferentiated from one brand to the next.

Im not sure what your issue is with Jaguar but Ive seen several post where youve bashed the brand. Your headline couldnt be more wrong as "taking the brand back" would imply going back to an old time which is wrong because Jaguar at least is clearly moving forward with being a modern company. Ive never owned a Jaguar but the new XJ, XF, and XK from a competitive sense are great cars all offer great performance and high quality interiors and great dynamics im sure ive never driven the new XJ of course to say but from reading reviews its an amazing car, and in all honesty its interior i will say from pics looks a claa above the rest of the cars in its segment.

@bmwdrvr

"ive never driven the new XJ..."

And that's why you're an armchair quarterback that thinks anyone who does not agree with him is "bias."

00R,

You have asked that others be specific, yet you yourself refrain from doing so. Instead of hiding behind nebulous and defensive assertions, do please come out and inform us of the way you believed the XJ drove. I am aware that asking in such a manner may result in opinions additionally derived from the desire to be defensive.

I know the way I thought it drove, I am aware of quite a few reviews of its driving character, which were undoubtedly more thorough than my experience, and I am curious to know yours.

any LEGITIMATE journalist who has reviewed the XJ had nothing but glowing remarks to say about it, so who I should I believe the person that basis his reviews off of bias OH TO THOSE WHO ARENT USED TO HIS WEAK ARTICLES read one of his ridiculous car reviews where he saids one car is better despite the fact "he" saids it gets beaten on all objective measures your articles are jokes I was really going to refrain from saying that but after you trashing the new XJ based on its performance and quality you clearly are overly bias....
