the coupe will be out later this summer. I believe production on the e46 ends 5/31. They won't go another year with the current model or without a coupe, it'll be here, and I can't wait to see some good shots of it!

Hope it's not true. I'm looking to replace my e46, and the 335 looks like a winner. BMW must release before the a4 redesign.

U have to understand that, now it is facing Lexus,inifiniti type of cars.

BMW,no prob take your time,but atlast don't dissapoint us.

If I am going to drive something witha turbo in it I want more than 306hp.

Another thing. The IS350's are selling as fast as the dealers can allocate them, so the sales are slowed byt the production of the car. The same can't be said for the 3er.

If the turbo engine is delayed for one year that's okay. Why rush it into production when the engineers haven't squeezed every ounce of power out of it. They would be putting their reputation on the line if they do other wise. After all their name is Bavarian Motor Works (BMW). It's not like BMW sales are hurting. My take on the whole thing is BMW will deliver the knock out blow to competitors with the release of the twin turbo engine. I like the direction BMW is headed in. Small liter displacement with twin turbos = pocket rocket. Just take a look at the specs for a Porsche or the EVO.

I agree with signaljr. BMW could probably wait another two years, bring this engine out, and still compete well. I don't think it is about BMW feeling pressure, I think its the other way around. BMWs superior sales and cars have have them in them driver's seat so to speak. They can sit back, see what every one else is doing, then take the money and manpower that they have and one up the competition. Whereas other manufacturers have to scramble to get decent, competitve products on the market. These competitors (IS350, G35, TL etc...) always lack in some area compared to BMW. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a BMW fan but I respect their abilities.

I think BMW should stick to the script and leave the Turbo engines to those that know them the best Audi, Subaru etc.

Well said Alex. huu76 you make a very good point why bother with turbos at all if their sales aren't hurting. I don't believe their sales are hurting at all. My take is BMW does not only want to one up the competition but to leap frog ahead of the game by a few years. This will give them time to work on improving their naturally inspired engines. By then the cars would have gotten bigger so the weight issue with large displacement engines would have faded away. Do you remeber that saying? While the competion is looking for a fast ball you through them a curve ball or a change up. It's BMW staying ahead of the game, and as Alex said you have to respect their abilities for attempting to lead the pack. Yes, turbos can have reliability problems if their not sized correctly. I don't think these guys and gals will get the sizing wrong. The most common problem is the driver trying to spool up the turbos before the oil temp/pressure gauge has come up to range. One of my friends has an 2002 Audi RS twin turbo, he's got 100K+ miles on the thing and hasn't had a single problem with the turbos. Also, BMW is not new to the turbo game, many years ago most of their cars had turbos. Their diesel cars in Europe currently have twin turbos. So they actually have some years of experience with turbos. I'm not sure if this is the right tread to mention something I'm noticing with the luxury car segment. Any ways here it is every one of these luxury car companies are sacrifices one thing for another. For example BMW and Infiniti sacrifice comfort ability for drive ability, while MB and Lexus sacrifices drive ability for comfort ability same go's for Acura. Audi in my opinion almost gives us both drive ability and comfort ability. If I'm not mistaken Audi is the leading car sales manufacture in Europe. They only trail BMW here in the states. So this whole thing about who is better and who's not is really open for interpretation. Or should I say it depends on who you ask.
