Chevy Volt to be sold as a Buick on the Chinese market
For those who don’t know, GM’s Buick is an appreciated brand in China, despite the fact that the Cadillac brad is also present there since 2004. Due to this fact, it appears that GM took the decision to sell the Chevrolet Volt as a Buick, on the Chinese market.

According to our sources, the Buick Volt will go in sale in China in the first half of 2011 and GM hopes to sell up to 8,000 vehicles until the end of the year.

We have heard about the Volt a shorter amount of time than we have heard about the LF-A. Has an LF-A been delivered to a customer yet?

Remember how long it took them to get the Camaro out. I think that this car is a little more complex and they know that if there is any problems with this car and if it does not live up to the hype people are going to go ape shit on them.

I hate to see this. It's the finance dept calling the shot. GM is trying to ride the strong Buick grand in China and using it as a launch platform for all critical vehicles (and the Volt is a critical vehicle in that it needs to be high volume to make money for GM). Not sure how the Volt enhance the Buick image in the Chinese market but I was under the impression Buick is seen by Chinese as the traditional big luxurious American car that Chinese crave for (rightly or wrongly). I'm not sure how the Volt fits into this marketing concept? Reminds me of the Cadillac Cimarron, in reverse.

Buick is already GM's best selling brand in China where they feel the Buick name is pure luxury (since they use the Euro designs we are seeing now for GM in the U.S.). So selling at a Buick is a good business strategy.
