Bmw Gran Coupe will go into production in the second quarter of 2012
According to a Bmw source, it appears that the Gran Coupe Concept which was introduced at the Beijing Auto Show will go into production in the second quarter of 2012.

The new car will take on cars such as the new Audi A7, Porsche Panamera but also the second-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS. Regarding its design, the car will remain almost the same in the production version which will be seen also on the new 6-Series Coupe and Comvertible.

In my entirely subjective opinion, the Porsche Panamera has forged out a new definition for a new type of car. Start with the iconic 911 (2 place + joke seats), and adapt it to a 4-door variant with 4 true seats. It's a 4-door sports car (as much as one can be) with a powerful resemblance to its 2-door, hard-core sports forefather.

Not so with the "Gran Coupe." It comes across to me as just another car, with just another body style. Not a bold move. Nor innovative. Just trying to get a piece of the MB CLS market?

I'm sure it'll appeal to someone. It just doesn't seem to be enough of anything to capture my interest.

you got it backwards. the panamera was not adapted from the 911 at all; they are entirely different cars with virtually nothing in common other than some exterior styling cues. the gran coupe, however, is adapted from a 6. that said, the GC is another nice looking for a market. I'll stick with the 5.

I really like the GC, but until I see the interior I will reserve judgement. I went to drive the new 5 earlier this week and while I like the car itself and the engines the interior left me wanting more. When compared to the E Class that BMW had on hand for us to drive the 5 series interior left 8/10 people wanting more. I need BMW to step it up a bit on the interiors.

Funny you should mention this. I was just talking about this the other day. I (for one, and am the only one) think that the german car interiors are of great quality but are EXTREMELY lacking in the "interesting" department. Oh, and when is navigation going to become standard? A vehicle without navigation and fog lamps more than 30K is asinine...
