Does Chrysler have a 'Fairy' problem or is this just a case of 'Fairyphobia'?

The Dodge Caliber's "Anything but Cute" advertising campaign featuring a fairy in one television spot is anything but funny to some in the gay community.

Some viewers and gay rights supporters have complained the Chrysler Group commercial -- dubbed "Too Tough" and featuring a fluttering fairy zapping buildings and trains into cuter-looking gingerbread houses and toy trains -- is offensive and borders on homophobic.

The fairy is unsuccessful at transforming a black Caliber and is mocked by a male passer-by walking a dog. "Silly little fairy," he says.

As retribution, the fairy turns the pedestrian's button-down shirt and jeans attire into white shorts and a polo shirt draped with a preppy sweater. His black dog leash becomes four pink ones connected to Pomeranians. The suggestion, some say, is the man was turned into a homosexual.

If you look hard enough for something offensive, you're bound to find it. And they looked hard for this one.

This is the same demographic that has a television show called "Queer Eye For the Straight Guy" and an activist group called "Queer Nation". I remember a time when calling a gay guy queer was a bad thing, now it's become mainstream.

The bottom line is that there's a gay agenda being pushed in this country. There's a push to somehow make homosexuality a 'normal' life-style. It's not going to happen, when the majority of Americans don't support that life-style. If you decide to act like a spoiled child every time you assume something or someone has offended you in some way, you're only defeating your cause.

I just hope Dodge (and Corporate America) doesn't give in to the gay community because I think it's just so stupid, and much ado about nothing.

Thank God (can I say that?), I'm not the only one who thinks this is absolutely stupid and Lem there are probably a thousand more things you could point out to show the hypocrisy of this "group". I wouldn't be surprised however to see Chrysler cave. This is sacred territory for the PC crowd and their agenda.

...Wow, great comeback. And I see you're tolerant of both others views and "rednecks". At least say something relatively intelligent like some of the others whether you agree or disagree with the topic.

Bottom line, the "hub-bub" over this commercial is stupid, especially from a group that likes to make fun of themselves in other ways. But hey, sense of humor is rapidly becoming a thing of the past.

Very good point.

I, personally, am 'opposed' to homosexuality. However, when I saw this commercial, I laughed. I laughed not because I thought it was a 'call-out' on queers, but rather, turned a rough-n-tough looking guy into a panzy with toy dogs.

Case closed.

Talk about turning a needle into a haystack!

This commercial shouldn't be disected. Any paranoid schizophrenic can turn a harmless situation into a reason to cause a riot. Believe me....

I was watching television last night, and I came across the commercial at least three times. I'm glad that Chrysler/Dodge haven't given in to any pressure they might have gotten to deep six this ad.
