Narcissism And You, What Does YOUR Car Say About You?

Narcissism And You, What Does YOUR Car Say About You?
The Truth About Cars reports:

Earlier this week on my blog I wrote about narcissism – specifically of whether or not bloggers are by nature narcissistic and if gender makes a difference in that judgment. As I linked in that entry, Justine Musk, soon-to-be ex of Tesla head Elon Musk, had some interesting ruminations on the subject if you care to read it.

Anyway, between Musk’s thoughts, another run-in with an Unnecessary Truck and this awful situation in the Gulf, self-involved tendencies have been weighing heavily on my mind of late. Being so selfish has certainly led to that disaster, but I also don’t think you can argue with the fact that many of our choices as consumers are driven not by necessity, but by pure narcissism.

Take that aforementioned Unnecessary Truck, for example. To reiterate, I am not talking about pickups driven for legitimate professional purposes, or that are frequently used to haul boats and dirt bikes and trailers and the like...

I want that truck shown in the picture. Not because it's big and manly, but my inner child says it's awesome.

Come to think of it, it's the same inner child that tells me that I don't want, but NEED a Zonda haha.

I am a truck guy and all, but this truck doesn't look like it would do too well off road, it's too high, the tires are fine, with a truck this big I wouldn't go with more than a 6 inch lift, I would professionally trim the body so there are no clearance issues,I am a believer in lots of wheel travel with big tires and low centre of gravity, just like the rock buggies. If I had leaf springs some people move the front axle forward away from the firewall, so less lift required and less trimming required.

Pettersons Four Wheeler modified a one ton Ford with huge military tires and did very little lift and it did as well or better than your average modified Jeep, they would shine in different areas, It was very impressive, unlike the vehicle above. I would cringe at the size of the lift blocks in the 4x4 in this photo.

Most red necks know nothing about trucks, its just than that they drive one, I hate body lifts and rear spring blocks, they create more leverage so you get more axle hop.

I still think it's a pretty cool truck, even though the ground clearance is like 8 inches. Almost the reverse of a Ferrari, but same 'look at me' principle.

The tires are around 40inches, so the ground clearance under the diff would at least be 12 inches, but I see your point, its the one thing most big truck owners can't comprehend, they can lift it 10 feet in the air and there diff is still only 8-12 inches from the ground. As far as the look at me thing, you get a lot more attention from women when you are in a Ferrari, I know! It's $$ not the vehicle that is represented that gets there attention.

Why didnt anyone answer the question! lol My 300C is on 22's but it wasnt necessarily by choice. My factory wheels were stolen off of my car in my driveway and since the insurance was paying, aftermarket wheels were cheaper than another set of factory wheels. Anyway, to answer the question, my car might say "hood" (aka ghetto mobile) about me. Idk, what do you think when you see a 300C sitting on big wheels?

When I see a car like yours with 22in rims I would assume that they are gangsters or wanna bees? Not all the time, but on another note I think it would cost a lot of $$ to replace the rubber when you need to, and you are more susceptible to damaging your tires when you hit a rock or pot hole.As far as performance, you should get bigger brakes, and they increase your unsprung weight, so you get a rough ride, aside from hurting the performance of your car they look great, and in traffic less people will show you there middle finger for fear of getting shot, lol

I respect your comment! Lol It was actually quite funny! I got it in '06 and the wheels were stolen about a month after I got it (temp plates were still on!). My tires in the back need to be replaced but @ $275 a tire, Im trying to wait until they fall off before I replace them. (I know thats not smart/safe) As for the ride, tell me about it. My car looks good parked and thats about it. Every time I hit a pothole (im in Chicago on top of everything) it feels like the car is about to take off from the ground like a plane. You live and learn though. Wont EVER put oversized wheels on a car again unless I win the lotto.
