BREAKING! BMW Halts 1-Series Sales On Fire Risk
BMW has instructed its dealers to hold delivery on 1 Series models produced between January 2010 and May 2010, based on dealer documents Consumer Reports has reviewed, until a recall can be performed.
BMW advises the repairs can begin immediate on dealer inventory, suggesting a quick resolution. The recall also affects certain 2008-2011 model year 1 Series coupes and convertibles.

@94geo & bonsai: Speaking of which, I was just about to ask why people even bother posting a pic with an article if it doesnt apply.

you're right, if this were a Toyota recall there would be a dozen posts by now declaring the owners as bad drivers if they crash their car since it might not catch on fire otherwise.

This is a volunteering recall! Toyota should follow that good example. No one has to tell BMW to stop sales, or to stop production, they are actually just doing it by themselves! Brilliant. BMW really cares about their customer!
That’s the way it should be. Toyota: Listen and learn!
And by the way, no fanboy is blaming the driver ...

Now that should get a "Don't buy" tag from Consumer Reports.

Agreed!!! If a floor mat recall can get so much attention and criticism then why not a car that catches on fire?

"The recall also affects certain 2008-2011 model year 1 Series coupes and convertibles".
"The affected vehicles have insufficient clearance between the seat belt tensioners in the B-pillar and the insulating material surrounding it. In the event of a crash, the insulation could become overheated and catch fire."
Ummmmm, do Convertibles have "B" pillars?????

NO way.....! You're sure it NOT Toyota or Lexus? If it were, we probably have over 1000+ post by now. So much for German Superiority.
I told many of you many time that every brands has defect with their cars.

The difference is that BMW voluntarily recalled them and ToyLex hid problems for years...YEARS, and they knew people were getting killed.
I really appreciate their "Wins for Toyota Safety Group" where they internally praised themsleves for lobbying federal safety officials to limit a recall tied to sudden acceleration complaints saving the company $100 million, among others.
Nice try though. I'd hitch my wagon to new horse if I were you.

Sounds like a small fix. As opposed to "MY BRAKES DON'T WORK. HELP." Toyota documents prove they knew about the faulty break pedals for at least five years but choose to do nothing.

I wanted a 1-series convertible. Forget all the useless options that make the car pricey. Me and that brilliant BMW six cylinder thanks. Il take the surround sound package, no roof.
