2011 McLaren MP4 12C Pricing Announced

2011 McLaren MP4 12C Pricing Announced
McLaren Automotive, the world’s newest sports car company, today announces the partners in its UK retail network: Rybrook in Birmingham, Jardine Motors Group in London, and Sytner in Manchester.

These three outstanding and experienced automotive retailers will begin selling the McLaren MP4-12C from spring 2011 under the names McLaren Birmingham, McLaren London and McLaren Manchester. The UK, along with the USA, will be McLaren’s biggest market, and initial interest in the UK for the 12C already exceeds the first year’s allocation. A full model range of high-performance, two-seat, mid-engine McLaren sports cars will be completed by the middle of the decade.

Antony Sheriff, McLaren Automotive’s Managing Director: “I am thrilled to announce the relationship between McLaren Automotive and its UK representatives – three of the best car retail businesses in the world. The UK is our home, and the strong demand for the 12C from potential retailers and prospects is evidence of the strength of the McLaren brand in the UK.

A brand-new manufacturing facility, the McLaren Production Centre (MPC), began construction on March 1 2010 adjacent to the MTC. It will begin to build cars for the UK from spring 2011. The very first UK customers will have their cars built in the first months of 2011 in the MTC, prior to the opening of the MPC. This planned manufacturing programme will ensure the same unprecedented quality that McLaren delivered on the SLR is transferred onto all future McLarens.

Of the 19 countries, and 35 retailers, launching McLaren Automotive, the UK, USA, and Germany will be the company’s biggest markets for the 1,000 12Cs planned for production in 2011. Between 300 and 400 cars are planned for North America, 400 to 500 for Europe (70 per cent to UK and Germany), and 100 to 200 each for the Middle East/South Africa and Asia Pacific regions.

Following the March 2010 McLaren Automotive press conference, The Launch of a New Car Company, over 2,500 potential customers have now expressed a ‘serious intention to buy’ the 12C. The first 12Cs will be delivered to customers in Europe, followed by a phased distribution to retailers in the Middle East, South Africa, North America and Asia Pacific.

Prices for the 12C will be confirmed at a later date, but the car will sit in what McLaren terms the ‘core’ sports car segment of cars priced between £125,000 and £175,000.

That's half the price of the LFAil!

And the Mclaren also has a carbon fiber tub. Is rear engined (which cost more to build that the LF-A's front engine setup), has a more advanced transmission. If Lexus is losing money with the LF-A (which they aren't), then Mclaren must be loosing a fortune on each car. It costs half as much as the LF-A!!! How can someone justify the LF-A costing twice as much, or even claim that they are losing money on each one sold?

I think lexus is losing money on the LFAil because they are trying to reimburse the costs of that loom over only 500 cars. Mclaren did the smart thing and engineered a lighter weight carbon fiber tub that can be manufactured in a fraction of the time (2 hours a piece) with the use of distributors to source materials and parts from.

Cost effective? They do their own carbon fiber? Or did they outsource it to another company to make their carbon tub? Is the car front engined with alcantara and leather with a carbon interior with carbon body panels? Does it come with a personal customization with the trim package? are you able to get every option at the same price (besides matte paint)? Is it a NA engine? does it rev to 9500rpm? Has it raced at the nurburgring 24hour race 3 seperate times before it even came out? Has it gone through years of benchmarking and rigorous testing? Does it have a single cluth transmission that mimics the feel of a manual but shifts faster than a blink of an eye? Or does it have a nannybox dual clutch video game tranny with no throttle blipping? Does it come with one-off special tires? Can you get it in 20+ different colors? Does it come with a special edition with a Nurburgring track pass for a whole year? Are you invited to special seat fittings and customization options?

Come back and tell me how 'cost efficient' a super car is supposed to be also. You think McLaren just made up a brand new rotary loom to weave their own carbon fiber? Did they go with an F1-derived 4.8 liter V10 powerplant WITHOUT turbocharging to produce 560+hp? The MP4 is a surely nice car, but an exotic it is not. To me it looks a lot like a decontented carbon bucket with some seats and a rear engine (the easy way out)

I can give you thousands of reasons why the LFA is more expensive, but I think I posted a lot of them that should suffice.

Yes I think Mclaren has engineered this car more cost-effectively than Toyota did with their LFA.

Okay let's see.

Mclaren: Only does Supercars and MP4-12C is one of three models planed, so the R&D will be relevant for the next 2 models as well.

Toyota: Toyota is a very big company and make hundreds of models but is new in Supercar category. Toyota has done a lot of R&D for LFA but surely it will be very little relevant for the future models. Maybe only the V10 engine will be shared by a model or two. That is why LFA costs so much because Toyota is covering their R&D costs as much as possible whereas Mclaren will first of all make thousands of MP4-12C(full production life cycle) and other confirmed 2 models as well.

Now the main selling points for both models are different as well. For LFA it is technology, customization, Exclusivity...etc
For MP4-12C it is again technology, class leading performance, brand prestige..etc.

BTW i love MP4-12C and so far the numbers suggest it will be hard to beat by even Ferrari 458.

So the only reason to buy the LFA is for the $20,000 paint options and knowing your car is about about as rare as a vector?
