LA Times Takes On The 2011 Buick Regal And Walks Away Unimpressed

Being among the oldest U.S. auto brands, Buick has a certain geriatric chic that could make it ripe for renewal. If Betty White can stage a late-career comeback, why can't this stalwart of automotive cushiness? They're practically the same age, and the last time either was in vogue was the 1980s.

The upside to being so out of fashion is that Buick could now be "in," if only the Regal lived up to the promise the manufacturer showed last year with its luxury sedan, the LaCrosse CXS. With its successor, the Regal, Buick is simply trying to do too much. In its efforts to be simultaneously elegant, sporty, fuel efficient, technologically tricked out and affordable it doesn't fully succeed.

All new Buicks since the Enclave are impressive.

they seem impressive from the outside or in the commercials, but when you sit in one and feel the plastic interior and the poor quality of the fit and finish you realize it's still a buick.

captain, do you fondle all dashes equally or just sport sedans?

lol captain, that's all in your head. All cars under $100,000 use plastic everywhere. The Brand perception however makes it so that when you sit in an Audi or Lexus, your finger nail doesn't go straight to the nearest bit of plastic you can find. I'm biased the other way, when I sit in an Audi or Lexus, I instantly find cheap plastic everywhere.

im no bill shakespeare, but someone who sums up a test drive write up with an analogy like this:
This car is the automotive equivalent of trying to cook dinner while talking on the phone and helping your kid with his homework.

should be fired.

It doesn't make the point that the fit and finish really aren't where they should be any less valid though, Droopy.

I agree ..... the writer says the car is many things but bangs it for that reason. Was the to elegant yet spotty and economical? Are those not traits of a great car. It is for my money.

I always hate reading reviews like this because to those people that believe whatever they read wont even get in the Regal a chance because of this. First off what was he expecting for 26,000 the price of a well equipped (not fully loaded mind you) family sedan your not going to get a leather wrapped dash and real wood trim thats makes no sense. A Bentley esque grill uhm which particular Bentley lol ive never seen a Bentley with a grill even remotely similar...this guy seems to have made up his mind prior that he wasnt going to like this car...The TSX which would be its closest competitor has tons of plastic everywhere and silver painted trim with a sea of buttons how is this more luxurious...yeah sure..

I agree with you, bmwdrvr. The moron who wrote this has no clue what he's looking for. The last time I checked Bentleys had egg-crate grilles, not waterfall grilles. It's actually closer to being a Rolls-Royce-esque grille, but really isn't anywhere near that either. He claims that he would be Prince Harry if the car were regal. I think he may very well be Prince Harry, no matter how regal the Regal is. He sounds like a pissed-off, spoilt younger sibling. Just like Prince Harry. But in his case though the older brother would be a journalist that has his own column with a real automotive magazine, and a tv show slot to boot. Recent drives by both CarandDriver and Motor Trend have deemed the Regal worth looking at.

"Camry is an awesome platform. I guess you haven't notice that practically every vehicle based on camry are hot sellers or best in it's class? It doesn't have wobbly seats like a $110,000 Vette, nor does it's motor shake and sound like a crude truck. Camrys engine still make more HP/L too. Is Malibus engine as refine as Camry? NO!"

What a joke Camrys are a crying shame along side all the regurgated garbage Toyota makes out of it. The malibu has beaten the Camry on all fronts including fuel MPG. Only the lemmings buy Camrys the have poor steering, power and 90's styling.
