BMW's M3 Claims Yet ANOTHER Victory Against Audi's Latest RS5

BMW's M3 Claims Yet ANOTHER Victory Against Audi's Latest RS5
Things are not looking so hot for Audi's new RS car, the RS5.

It seems that every review -- that we have seen -- has put the M3, armed with its Competition Package, against the RS5 and it seems that the M3 has downed it everytime.

Has Audi "jumped the shark" on this one OR is it not exactly a good comparison against the M3 and it is more of a GT car?

Weigh in below...

M3Post forum user South provides commentary:

Some here might have guessed that already, the M3 won that comparison. Sport Auto's verdict pretty much summed up that the M3 and the RS5 are built for different people. It's not so much a surprise that the M3 beat the RS5 in virtually all performance categories, surprising though is that Sport Auto even liked the ride in the M3 (EDC) more than Audi's adaptive suspension. On top, the M3 testcar was roughly 10k € cheaper.

As to the M3, this is the first Hockenheim time we have for a ZCP E92 with DCT, which -- on regular Michelin PS2 -- was even a tenth faster than the E92 M3 (6MT) on Cup+ tires...

As a track car the M3 wins hands down. As practicality, interior & exterior aesthetics, and all day enjoyment...the 2nd comment in that blog sums it all up for me.

The Audi's nose weighs 553 POUNDS more than the rear! That is a Front-Heavy Pig!! Wait...I actually just looked it up and pigs don't even weigh that much. Having an extra 553 lbs on the hood is literally like having a cow strapped to the hood.

No thanks.

Congrats BMW for designing a superior and more entertaining car - again.

no they will just talk about the massive incentives BMW is dishing out to stay alive
http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100511/RETAIL03/100519962

“We're not convinced we can keep the current level of incentive spending,” said Rich Brekus, BMW's general manager of sales for North America

“We need to keep our profits. And we will continue putting more of those profits into research and development,” Brekus said

never thought i would see the AUDI RS5 get beat out by pretty much a basic M3. It didnt even go against a souped up M3 which the RS5 is to the S5. I still like the RS5 its a great looking car minus the PEPBOYS 5-star wheels but thats amazing how much that car weighs in the front I would love to drive both of these cars to really see how they perform But the M3 almost never fails at whateva test you throw at it.

ouch! The M3 beat it in just about every category...Over a second quicker around the Hockenheim , 3mph faster in the slalom, better fuel economy. Hats off to BMW very impressive.

What has happened?

S4 was Audi's main competitor to the M3 till the N54. Then the S4 became the competitor to the 335i and the RS4/5 to the M3?

Was the N54 that huge of an improvement on performance to make Audi react this way, or rather the automotive community?

Both brands moved their mid-range cars out of market in the USA
BMW dropped the 330 and came out with the 335
Audi dropped the A4 3.2 and moved the S4 a little down market and is most aligned with the 335.

I wish Audi had an A4 3.0T I think there is a market for the car. The S4 has more standard features that moves it up market and leaves a hole in the A4 lineup.

The issue that Audi has right now in the USA is supply. We are sold out of almost every model of car. We should have 120 or so new cars in stock and we are down to about 30 cars. We only have 3 A4's. Maybe with the drop in the Euro we will get more cars in 2011.

The RS5 is a different car then the M3. I do wish they would come out with a "balls to the wall car". Why not give it your 4.0T engine? Why not make the S and RS models more attainable?

This GT cruzer would be nice to own though. Kind of the 928 of our day.

Who am I to argue because they must be doing something right? They are the most profitable car company in the world and nipping at BMW's heals for top luxury manufacture.

Why are you so surprised IamEvilHomer. This site is infested with BMW fanboy parasites. That is why they call this nonenthusiast site bmwspies.com. Only BMW trolls get boosted. At least IamEvilHomer you have the "joy" of not having to own a BMW but the "joy" of owning an Audi instead. So smile and move on.

From the sound of it the M3 offers more joy then the rs5 for about 10K less, and it outperformed your audi in just about every category
