Report: GM to revive 4.5-liter Duramax V8 diesel engine
According to unconfirmed reports, General Motors may be planning to revive the shelved 4.5-liter Duramax V-8. The baby Duramax was initially intended for the light-duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra but this could also spread to the heavy-duty truck lineup.

Sources told PickupTrucks.com that certain GM officials want to bring to life its plans for the in-house-designed Duramax, designated LMK. One reason cited was that it is ready to be implemented. GM said that a nicely developed diesel powerplant may give an edge in fleet averages especially when considering that the standards for fuel economy and emissions are in constant scrutiny from state and federal authorities.

The new gas teck will be just as efficient above, maybe even lighter? I like the idea of a smaller diesel.

Why do you like the idea of a smaller diesel if its not being used in non-truck applications?

I like the idea of a smaller diesel because it would be lighter and more efficient, and it is going to be in the half ton isn't it? With the reduced weight it would help the power to weight ratio, although if you were into towing heavy stuff you would go with the big diesel, i would be happy with the small one, providing it is efficient and powerful and reliable.
