Akido Goes Racing:Toyota Testing The Waters For WRC Rally Team Entry

Prodrive has been linked to a World Rally Championship entry with Toyota in 2011.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Prodrive has been commissioned to undertake a WRC study on behalf of Toyota, ahead of regulations changes in 2011.

The reports suggest an unnamed Toyota Motorsport official has confirmed the plans, saying: "We want to be prepared if and when we get a call from Japan to go and compete."

Prodrive has long been linked to running a Mini Countryman in the WRC from 2010, but rumours persist that parent company BMW is not willing to fully fund the programme.

First CR-Z, then AE86, and nobody comes up w/ a Z rival. I'm starting to wonder how different Japan is from the rest of the world......

The picture is not of the proposed entry to WRC. That would be a new unannounced model.

Some of those external accessories on that old WRC Celica seem a bit overdone (exhaust pipe leading out of the engine bay over the driver's windshield) as they add weight and destroy the coefficient of drag. Weight matters in this sport, coefficient of drag hardly does, but I suppose it's something to keep in mind.

there's a slight difference between a snorkle and an exhaust. btw, how would a plastic exhaust, half the size of the standard one, add weight to the car?

Didnt toyota just drop out of racing with poor results?
