Upcoming Audi R4 to be slotted below the TT, will take on Mazda MX-5
It’s not a secret anymore that Audi is working on a smaller R4 sports car inspired by the e-Tron Concept unveiled at this year’s Detroit Auto Show. What we didn’t know about this car is that it will be slotted below the TT, according to Audi CEO Rupert Stadler.

Also, the car will be available with a choice of two engines: a 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine capable to deliver 180 hp (found on the Golf GT) but also a 2.0-liter TDI engine which will deliver 170 hp.

This just doesn't make sense so I don't believe it.

That is NOT a very smart move. They're of have place above the TT coupe and give it a base egine with 350 hp and the top end model with 400hp. Nothing wrong with it having 400 hp and I know the Audi R8 have 420 hp I belief.

But look at the BMW 135i and BMW 335i, both have 300 hp and 300 lb torque right? BMW did fine with it.

I can see what VW wants them to do. Which is flesh out the "R" lineup and also offset the cost of the Bluesport so it spreads the development. But it looks like it should be above the TT. And "grysko" is right, upside-down bathtub is the way I have described it.

They will also add a V-6 to the lineuop at some point. And probably a tarted up hot rod track version that will not come stateside, like usual.
