Lexus unveiled the all-new 2008 LS 600h L hybrid luxury sedan at a press conference at the 2006 New York International Automobile Show. Scheduled to arrive in Spring 2007, the all-wheel-drive LS 600h L will be the world’s first vehicle to feature a full hybrid V8 powertrain.

"The LS 600h L was developed to explore the outer reaches of performance, style and safety," said Bob Carter, Lexus Division group vice president and general manager. "It is a vehicle as efficient and familiar as it is indulgent and advanced, a far-reaching concept, fully developed and fully realized. It is simply in a class by itself."

Lexus Hybrid Drive

Coinciding with the debut of the all-new LS is the introduction of the Lexus Hybrid Drive name, which will be used globally for all Lexus hybrid models. The hybrid-drive system in the LS 600h L builds upon the Toyota and Lexus legacy established by the Prius, RX 400h and GS 450h to combine an all-new five-liter V8 gasoline engine with large, high-output electric motors and a newly designed large-capacity battery pack. This advanced combination will provide the LS 600h L with an unmatched balance of environmental efficiency and performance, furnishing the hybrid with a peak combined output rating of more than 430 horsepower.

To distribute this immense power, a new full-time all-wheel-drive system is utilized for superior handling control. The LS 600h L also employs a newly developed dual-stage electronically controlled, continuously variable transmission. This combination results in impressive power and seamless acceleration.

The Lexus Hybrid Drive system found in the LS 600h L is the automotive industry’s most advanced gas-electric hybrid system developed to date, providing power and performance on par with modern 12-cylinder engines while still delivering best-in-V8-class fuel efficiency. It will equal or better the combined fuel-economy ratings of smaller V6 all-wheel drive mid-sized luxury sedans.

The LS hybrid is expected to carry a Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) rating. A SULEV rating means the LS 600h L has nearly 70-percent cleaner emissions than the “cleanest” of its competitors.

“It is fair to say that there is nothing on the road, or on the drawing board, that comes close to delivering such a formerly contradictory combination of jaw-dropping engine performance, fuel efficiency and clean emissions,” Carter said.

Owing to the inherent noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) improvements offered by its hybrid powertrain, the LS 600h L is designed to set a new standard for silent running in the prestige-luxury sedan class. The depth and density of cabin quietness in the LS 600h L required extensive re-engineering of accessory motors and switches.

With "quiet-ride" ranking as one of the top five reasons for purchase of prestige-luxury vehicles, especially among current LS owners, the LS 600h L is well-situated in its class and poised to please the exacting luxury-car buyer. Its NVH levels are about half that found in conventional cars, making the hybrid LS one of the quietest automobiles ever built, if not the quietest.

High-Output V8 and World's First Eight-Speed Automatic Transmission

The LS 460 and LS 460 L will be powered by an all-new, highly advanced 4.6-liter V8 engine that will produce approximately 380 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque. Combined with a world-first eight-speed automatic transmission, these LS sedans will travel from zero-to-sixty miles per hour in less than 5.5 seconds—all without sacrificing fuel economy. Even with this level of performance, the new LS sedans are expected to receive a combined city/highway mileage in the low-20s as well as an Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle II (ULEV II) rating.

Advanced Active Safety Technologies

Coinciding with the launch of the hybrid model is a newly developed, Advanced Pre-Collision System (APCS) that is like nothing ever before offered by Lexus. One element of APCS is a new system designed to help detect pedestrians in the vehicle’s path.

Two small cameras mounted at the front of the car, in conjunction with millimeter-wave radar, are sensitive enough to detect not just large metal obstructions such as cars but also smaller nonmetallic objects, such as humans.

A third camera, mounted on the steering column, monitors the orientation of the driver’s face. If the camera sees that the driver is not looking directly ahead for a few seconds or more, and if an obstacle is detected ahead, then it alerts the driver first with a warning chime and a flashing light. As the car gets closer to the obstacle, the system can begin to gently apply the brakes on its own. To assist the driver in maneuvering around the obstacle, the system reprograms the steering ratio, amplifying the intensity and quickness of the steering response. While all of this is happening, the system automatically cinches up the passenger restraints and prepares the brake system to respond with full force when activated by the driver in anticipation of a possible impact.

Dynamic Driving

These unique active safety systems team with Lexus’ proprietary next-generation Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system, standard on all new LS models, which integrates variable gear-ratio electronic steering, electronic vehicle stability control and electronic brake assist.

An air suspension system equipped with Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) will be standard on the LS 600h L and an option on the LS 460 L. VGRS optimizes the steering gear ratio according to vehicle speed to help enhance responsiveness and driver control. VGRS also partners with VDIM, making minor adjustments to front-wheel angle for improved control in challenging road conditions.

Together these technologies make up an intelligently designed, logically conceived vehicle that helps to provide a level of confidence and control never before experienced.

L-finesse

The styling on the new LS begins with a daring design language that shatters the myth that luxury sedans must be sedate and understated. A result of the recent design direction Lexus deems L-finesse, the new LS vehicles are the crowning touch to a fully restyled car lineup, which already includes the GS, IS and ES sedans.

The L-finesse design philosophy has its roots in creating a balance of contrasting elements. The new LS encompasses this direction with its bold look, style and personality—both vivid and forceful while at the same time warm, inviting and contemporary. With a pulled-back hood, characteristic of the new Lexus look, low-to-the- ground stance and elegantly sculpted and streamlined body contours, the LS emphasizes simplicity and style in a stunning, modern package.

Premium Appointments

Offered exclusively as a long-wheelbase model in North America, the new

LS 600h L will not only offer the highest level of performance, safety and technological advancements, it will also provide the highest level of comfort, convenience and roominess of the three distinctly different LS models.

The long-wheelbase model of the hybrid and the LS 460 L brings with it nearly five inches of additional legroom for rear passengers and can be outfitted with a long list of luxury conveniences that includes four-zone front and rear A/C with air purification, rear-door power sunshades and rear power headrests, a spectacular four-person seating configuration with a fixed rear console and fold-out table, and a right rear-seat 45-degree recliner with footrest and multifunction massage.

Technology amenities on the long-wheelbase models will include voice-activated hard disk drive (HDD) Navigation with Bluetooth® technology and XM real-time traffic system, a first in the prestige luxury segment, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with 9-inch drop-down screen, and the specially developed 19-speaker 450-watt Mark Levinson® Reference Surround Sound audio system, which creates a new standard for automotive sound systems. In addition, the

LS 600h L will be the world’s first vehicle to be equipped with LED headlights for nighttime and low-beam use.

The LS will also be the first Lexus to offer XM satellite radio as a factory-installed option. The all-new LS sedans will all offer an advanced parallel-park-assist function. The driver simply pushes a button and the park-assist system parks the car with just a little brake work by the driver.

Like all LS-series vehicles, the LS 600h L’s intelligent and evocative design carries through to the beautifully appointed cabin. Extra luxury and comfort touches include a heated steering wheel and seats wrapped in one of four tones of semi-aniline leathers matched to one of three coordinating wood-grain trims.

Craftsmanship

While the list of comfort, convenience and luxury features on the new LS-series

vehicles is remarkable, another truly defining aspect of these cars is their superb craftsmanship. In order to build a vehicle that would redefine “world’s best,” Lexus started by improving a production process widely recognized as the industry’s finest.

The new LS 600h L as well as the LS 460 and LS 460 L are the product of an all-new build process developed specifically for the LS line at Lexus’ award-winning Tahara, Japan plant. With this extraordinary investment in engineering expertise comes a sedan that achieves extraordinary new levels of fit, finish, accuracy and refinement. The all-new LS sedans showcase the Lexus belief that every element and phase of production is vital and that building cars is more than just a business—it is an art form.

The LS 600h L will go on-sale in April 2007, six months after the LS 460 and

LS 460 L launch in October 2006.

The only people that are getting heated up on here are the one-sided BMW and MB fans that take any chance they have to say that Germans are better at everything, including reliability, because they took a "risk". Sorry guys, but I don't want to be the guinea pig if I am buying an $80,000 car. Lexus is the marketing genius? MB and BMW must be the marketing geniuses. They sure have you tools convinced that being an innovator means selling you untested junk for a premium! Wouldn't wanna be ya...

It may sound like I hate German cars, but I don't. I like the new E-Class. It is a nice looking car. I am just worried about the quality issues which are prevalent in it. The E46 BMW is a very beautiful car. The E90 is a very UGLY car. Times have changed.

The LS 430 was always faster than the S 430 and S 500 with only 278 horsepower. It isn't too far of a stretch to imagine that an 8 speed LS 600h L can beat both the S600 and S65 in a straightline. Hardly BS.

...but I have to see it in the skin to judge it properly. Until recently I had never seen the new S-Class in the skin and wasn't too blown away by it. Standing next to it completely changed my mind, up until that point you could get no better than a A8 W12 (at least in my mind)...the S-Class has taken that back. It has an immense presence that you can't feel through pictures. Even those exaggerated wheel arches look fine in the skin. And the 7-series? Well personally I think the biggest problem with the 7-series is not the design of each of the separate elements but when they're put together it all looks disproportionate, like they just don't mix together. It's probably still magnificent to drive though...

In my experience the Lexus LS ages quickly. The new version seems to use a lot of design cues from SAAB and generally I find SAAB's designs to stay fresh for a long time so perhaps this is a change for the LS. Can't wait to see it on the road.

Mikeg,

You don’t want to be a guinea pig? I would rather support a company that gives a damn about our safety, new innovation and has a great heritage. Unlike Toyota/Lexus that just sits in the back seat and waits for the stuff to come to them. They copy it and then market it with childish commercials as if they invented everything. Their commercials are full of lies and shows that they have no class.

Now they are marketing a technology that existed for ages (Hybrid) and everybody thinks it’s the greatest thing ever, but mark my words this technology will be dead within 10 years. Hydrogen is the future not hybrid.

You want proof that these guys can’t come up with anything by themselves look at F1. They joined F1 6 years ago and have had the biggest budget ever and look at their results. They are an embarrassment and are already evaluating their future in F1.
Not to mention they got caught spying (industrial espionage) and stealing from Ferrari.

You want to be associated with this company and what they stand for.

The facts are:

MB invented the car (and motorcycle)
MB holds more safety and innovation patents that all the other manufacturers combined.
Since MB started selling their cars in US more that 80% are still registered and are being
driven.

When was the last time you saw a Toyota Cressida on the road? Which by the way was the first Lexus. They are all at the junkyard.

Open your eyes a little next time you are on the road. I don’t need some magazine or consumer report telling me what to buy. Plus reliability is subjective. What is reliability?

I took my car once to the dealer to get an oil change. When I got it back I had a very small scratch on my interior leather panel. I have since been to two dealerships about ten to fifteen times to rectify this mistake. Every time they replace on thing they break another. Is this a reliability issue or is this my fault for being overly picky plus incompetent technicians.

I’ve driven once a friends brand new LS and found so many little flaws one of them being an alignment issue. The car was pulling slightly to the left. I mentioned it to him and he was totally surprised.

What is the point of this? The point is MB owners are the most anal people ever. MB owners take their cars into service for every single problem no matter how small.

Instead of these stupid subjective reliability problems I want to see magazines publishing durability reports. What is the percentage of MB and Lexus cars sold 10 years ago that are still on the road today?

Let me repeat just in case you overlooked

MB HAS MORE INNOVATION AND SAFETY PATENTS THAN ALL THE OTHER MANUFACTURERS COMBINED.

I didn't know cars were considered advanced by the number of gears they had. What does that make big rig trucks? The most advanced vehicles on the
road.

It shows how good Lexus marketing is in the US. Add one gear more than MB and call it the most advanced vehicle on the road.

For all of you that think Lexus sales are so great just remember US sales do not represent World wide sales. Las time I checked the US is not the WORLD.

BTW, stop dreaming that an LS600H will ever beat a S65 just because it has 8 gears. You need a lot of torque to move these cars. If you knew anything about these monsters you would know that they still use the 5 speed tranny and a limited engine, so it doesn't vaporize the transmission.

The 8 speed LS tanny wouldn't last 10 minutes mated to the AMG V12 monster.

If you guys think Toyota are so smart and innovative why don't they show it to the whole world with F1? They have a 450+ million budget.

Or do you think they are in F1 just for fun and can just afford to throw away $450 million each year and get their butts whipped by Renault, MB, Ferrari, BMW, Red Bull in front of the whole world?

Wake up and look around you don't just read stupid consumer magazines.

Everytime I drive my 90 SL people can't believe it's 16 years old. I did a smog check the other day and they guy was triple checking my VIN. He was like there is no way this car is 16 years old.

What does a 16 year old Lexus look like? Is there such a thing? I think they rebadged the Toyota Cressida in 89 or 90 and it was called the ES250. I've seen one 5 years ago on the road and it looked like a rusted turd.

A friend of mine towed away a 92 SC300 to the junkyard (bad engine and trans). I've never seen any MB thrown away unless it was wrecked.

Call JD Powers and ask to do a survey on registered cars over 10 years old. I think we all know who would be on top of the list.

Ben55Ben55 - 4/15/2006 12:22:25 AM

You won't see MB and BMW with V8 Hybrids becuse they are smarter and won't waste time on dead technology.

Hydrogen is the future. Until then we will have super clean diesels like MBs Bluetec and zero emission cars like the lithium powered Smart they introduced at the NY show.

Anybody can mate an electric motor to a combustion engine and call it a Hybrid. What is the point of it anyway? WE NEED ZERO EMISSION CARS.

BTW, I think they riped off the technology from some US company and are being sued now.

Ben55Ben55 - 4/15/2006 3:03:37 AM
+1 Boost

Mercedes is not doing it because it's a DEAD TECHNOLOGY. MB is working on Fuel Cells, Hydrogen, new Bluetec Diesels, Lithium powered Smart cars.

You keep bring up the 8 speed trans. Who cares about the 8 gears? MB introduced the 7 gear two years ago and they never made a big deal deal out of it. There is much more to a transmission than just the number of gears. Any manufacturer can keep adding gears. If Hyundai introduced a 12 speed trans would you consider it the most advanced car?

ABS? Is that all that you could think of?

Here are a few just off the the top of my head.

Air bags, belt tensioners, ABS, fuel injection, crumple zones, ESP, BAS, Keyless go, Active Body Control, Xenons, Distronic, Pre-Safe, etc.

You might not be familiar with all of them since Lexus likes to rip off the technology and rename it. For example the new LS will debut:
"Advanced Pre-Collision System (APCS) that is like nothing ever before offered by Lexus."

APCS aka PRE-SAFE developed by MB 3-4 years ago. MB won multiple worldwide awards for it.

Please stop writing that Lexus has been in business for one decade and that MB and BMW should be embarassed. Lexus is a rebadged Toyota. Toyota has been around for many many decades. It's not like Lexus was created by some guy in his garage 16-17 years ago.

THE ONLY ONE THAT SHOULD BE EMBARASSED IS TOYOTA FOR STEALING OTHER PEOPLES TECHNOLOGY AND THEN SELLING IT AS THEIR OWN TO LESS THAN AVERAGE INTELLIGENT AMERICANS.

Have you ever asked yourself why it only works in the US? I bet MB outsells Lexus in Japan.

Like I said before go and watch F1. I keep bringing it up because it's one of the best places for manufacturers to show their technology. There is not much time to copy. Some try, like Toyota spying on Ferrari and getting caught.
You need to innovate and improve quickly or you get your ass kicked infront of the whole world.

Calling all Lexus haters - GET REAL.

I'll give you that German cars still have some of the best road feel and great theoretical innovation, but their quality and execution on many of their ideas and patents just plain SUCKS, right along with their overall quality. Asia is kicking their arrogant butts, and you're having a hard time seeing it.

MB owners aren't anal, they're paranoid. I worked with one. Her C320 locked her IN THE CAR more than once. She was on a first name basis with the service department, not due to anal issues, but because of real quality problems that don't end. A wealthy friend with the current 7-series finally sold his for an M45 out of disgust for the electronic gremlins that even the dealers admitted to him they couldn't fix.

If highest quality and innovation are marketing gimmicks, then I'll give you that one, too. When's the last time any car manufacturer came up with a REVOLUTIONARY drivetrain that actually has better overall performance and conservation, all the while being Toyota tough. If by German innovation you're referring to useless electronic pods that are neither intuitive nor reliable, OK you're right again.

And, if, by copying the great MB and BMW, you mean actually designing and executing useful electronics/nav systems, OK you win again.

I'm amazed at the nonsense in these posts. You're dodging the truth: Lexus is adding flavor and style to their formerly plain cars, and the world is interested.

I feel like I'm listening to the Board at General Motors: "Well, if we get a couple more HP out of our pushrod V6, we'll probably throw the automotive world on it's ear..."

TAKE THE BLINDERS OFF, GIVE UP THE HALLUCINOGENS AND WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!

Give the 8 speed a rest. The whole world knows that MB builds the best transmissions. Innovative was to go from 5 to 7 and having the capability of skipping gears according to driving situations.

Why do you think MB received so much publicity for it?

The 8 speed is just another example of what Lexus does best. Reverse engineer MBs innovations and make a small change. In this case add one more gear.

I doubt MB will ever have an 8 speed. There is no advantage to go from a 7 to 8. Remember you are just adding unnecessary weight. If you want to keep the same weight you need to use lighter and stronger materials. Look how long it took AMG to make the 7 speed strong enough for their V8s. I don’t think they have a solution for the V12 yet.

And if you really believe that the Germans don't have Hybrids because they are lacking technology that must mean FORD is also ahead of the Germans.

Get real. They don't have it because they decided to go a different direction.

Your post is full of BS. I love when people that have no idea how things work get technical.
Tell your friend with the C320 that the car is supposed to lock you in at a certain speed 7-9mph.

If you knew anything about MB locks you would know that it is impossible to be locked inside. There is always a physical connection between the interior door handle and the lock. It will open regardless of any electrical malfunction. Ex. Being submerged in water.

You guys think Toyota is so perfect just because JD powers writes about subjective reliability problems. I know for a fact that MB/BMW owners expect a lot more from their cars. They demand perfection.

You ever heard of the Toyota V6 recall?
I think it was back in 96-00. They were changing engines left and right. One of my tech friends got so good at it he was changing 3 engines per day. He loved the work and made a whole lot of money that year.

Nobody said that Lexus owners wouldn't take their car in for repair. I'm trying to tell you that they wouldn't take it in for very small problems.
Like my friend with the LS. I found numerous small problems that he wasn't even aware of.

I owned a Tacoma a few years ago. If I took that truck in for every small problem as my MB I would be at the service department every day. Believe it or not I had more problems with that truck than any of my MBs. Two failed AC evaporators, numerous suspension failures (ball joints, tie rods), failed differential (oil leaked out), check engine lights. The funny part was that the truck was so simple, it didn't even have a clock yet had so many problems.

I never said that MB would have 7 gears forever. I said there was no real advantage to go from a 7 to 8. Maybe one day they will develop 9 or 10.
The technology behind this is not the number of gears. You can make a 14 or 16 speed transmission by connecting two trannys together.
However, any advantage from that transmission would be useless since you just added 200 lbs to the car.

Keep believing that MB doesn't have the technology to build Hybrids. At the NY show they introduced a Lithium powered Smart car. You don't even need gas just an electrical outlet.

Nobody buys Smart cars...LOL

Why are they bringing it to the US then?
Because there is a huge damand for it. I can't imagine having a better car than a Lithium powered Smart in NY. You can park it anywhere, zero emissions, and no more trips to the gas station.

You think MB would actually release something that had a top speed of 30mph. It has to be able to go on a highway.

BTW, the Tacoma was mine. My friend has an LS430 with numerous small flaws that he never even noticed.

Ben55Ben55 - 4/16/2006 3:53:08 PM

Exactly. However, when they release a 9 or 10 speed then it will be innovative and Lexus will make sure to take that one apart too so they can add another gear.

Put it this way if Lexus had the 8 speed before MB’s 7 speed I would admit to it being innovative. Going from 5 to 8. But this is not the case MB’s transmission was introduced two years ago. Don't be blind. EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT LEXUS LIKES TO REVERSE ENGINEER CARS. This is one of the reasons they are successful.

JT, you lack common sense. Why would a company produce the Smart if the car were not selling?

I know for a fact that the Smart is on its way to the US.

I could care less how many cars Lexus sells. As far as I'm concerned they can sell twice the number of cars as MB. After all it's a TOYOTA and it should sell more.

But I do have a problem with people that bash German engineering. You should thank the Germans for even having a car today.

THE SUCCESS OF LEXUS IS BASED ON REVERSE ENGINEERING, GOOD MARKETING, AND LOWER PRICING. If you don't believe it ask yourself how many cars would Lexus sell if the price were higher than MB and BMW.

According to you their cars are ages ahead of the Germans, so they have the right to charge a premium. Why don't they?

Why doesn't Lexus build a $200K car? How about an SLR competitor? How about a Maybach?

BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T SELL. WAKE UP!!!!!

LOL...Neno you sound like JT in disguise.

Go read my posts again. I said it's pointless to go from a 7 to 8. MB went from 5 to 7 and now according to you 10. These are significant changes and that is what I predicted. But going from a 7 to 8 is pointless. What is so hard to understand about that?

Everybody knows the OLD ML320 was very troublesome. It is one of the major reasons MB does poorly in reliability surveys. The ML is made in ALABAMA.
Go speak to somebody that drives an SL, CL, S, even an E class.

BTW, all those people that you mentioned with fortunes wouldn't get caught dead in a Lexus.

Trust me if you hit the lotto, the Lexus dealership would be the last place you would visit.

Don't even try to discuss design because Toyota is probably the worst company in this department.
All of their cars look like crap.

Go look at a 2002 SL500. It has looks to kill. Guess when was it designed? It was designed in the mid 80s, released in 89.

How many Camry generations can you fit in that time frame? The Japanese can only dream of a design like that.

Had to go back to even know what you were talking about. The name thing was an honest mistake.

I can see that you know nothing about cars and you
have your head stuck in consumer magazines.

If you knew anything about cars you would never bring up the "Bangle Butt"

You might want to look at the Maybach design before you start accusing MB of any rip offs.
Maybach sketches were circulating on the internet back in 96-97, way before any Bangle.

The only similarity in the interior design is the double cluster. If the S didn't have the double cluster people wouldn't even bring up the similarity.

You want to see a real carbon copy look at the LS430 and the old W140 S class 92-99. They copied it all the way down to the wheels.

Like it or not MB is 120 years old, MB invented the car, MB has more patents and innovations than all the other manufacturers combined, MB makes the safest cars on the road (less than 10 fatalities per million), MB makes cars that will outlast anything from Japan.

WHAT DID TOYOTA EVER INVENT? NAME ONE SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION THAT THEY MADE TO THE AUTO INDUSTRY.

Here is something for you to think about before you start spreading Chrysler lies again. The average bulletproof MB (E class) from the 80s was priced $30-40K, which is equivalent to $70-90k today. Guess who we should thank for this cost cutting?

I really don't care how many cars Lexus sells. It's a glorified TOYOTA and it should sell more.
Put it this way, you think I want to see Lexus owners switching to MBs and BMWs. No way...it would just dilute the brands. I don't want to drive a car that everybody else drives. MBs, BMWs, AUDIS, PORSCHES ARE FOR THE PRIVLEDGED FEW THAT KNOW THE GOOD THINGS IN LIFE.

Lexus could probably go straight to a 14 speed with lighter materials, since their engines have no torque.

The reason why MB sells their cars stripped is because of tight competition. I told you, we should thank the Japanese automakers for making the cars cheaper and cheaper.

I'm not sure where you saw MBs under MSRP, unless they were being replaced with newer models. Ex S500 vs S550, E55 vs E63, ML320 vs ML350, Etc.

Just try and get a discount on a new S or a CLS. STOP SPREADING LIES!!!
I guess everything needs to be spelled out for you.

If you can build a trans with 10-14 gears and keep it at the same weight or lighter and have the same strength then of course it's an advantage.

Maybe you should go shopping for a current LS. I bet you could get a huge discount with the new LS just around the corner.

As far as I know CD changers were standard on the old S500.

But think about it, if you could get an extra $500 for the changer why not charge it? It's part of being competitive. I don't approve of it, but this is what manufacturers need to do to stay competitive. It's actually because of people like you that prefer a cheaper car with more equipment than a car with SUPERIOR ENGINEERING AND HERITAGE.
Why don't you just go buy a KIA or HYUNDAI?
They have come a long way since they started and are actually starting to look like LEXUS CLONES.

GERMAN CARS ARE FOR PEOPLE THAT APPRECIATE THE FINER THINGS IN LIFE. LEXUS' ARE FOR PEOPLE THAT CAN'T AFFORD THE NICER THINGS IN LIFE.

Well you can put the CD bashing to rest. The previous S class had standard CD players and as far as I know most had changers.

They had standard Navigation (COMAND). In order to have Navigation it needs a CD player.

Did any 2000 Lexus have Navigation?

The funny thing is that you are bashing MB for not having a CD and it turns out the 2000 LS didn't have a single CD or changer as standard.

Keep twisting things like JT. Show me where I wrote that everybody with money should be driving German cars.

I could care less about your TOYOTA or LEXUS. What I'm interested in is why does MB have to get bashed every time you idiots want to glorify Toyota. Look at the title of this article, as if the LS could ever dethrone the mighty S.

Does MB make commercials with Japanese speaking engineers taking apart their cars in total awe or is it the other way around? The funny thing is that Toyota makes does BS commercials for people like you and JT. Anyone with some common sense knows that in reality it is the other way around.

YOU WANT TO PROVE ME WRONG? NAME ONE THING THE JAPANESE CONTRIBUTED TO THE AUTO INDUSTRY.

I don't know about you, but I don't think there are many kids out there dreaming of owning a TOYOTA/LEXUS some day.

Keep in mind "THE BADGE" had to be earned. It's not like they were giving them away at a Christmas party.

I'm here because of the title and to defend MB not because I'm interested in the LS or because I want to purposely bash Lexus.

Keep telling yourself that Lexus is 20 years old. Lexus is as old as Toyota PERIOD. Lexus was not created from scratch in some person’s garage like MB 120 years ago.

Here is a nice article on your Hybrid technology:

"Those who buy petrol-electric hybrid cars for their green credentials as well as their fuel economy may be misguided, according to a two-year American study.

CNW Marketing Research, of Bandon, Oregon, says that hybrids have a greater "whole of life" impact on the environment than conventional cars.

The study revealed that recycling of batteries and electric motors created a higher energy cost for every mile driven.

The most "energy expensive" vehicle from 2005 was the Maybach at $11.58 a mile, VW Phaeton at $11.213 and Rolls-Royce Phantom at $10.660.

The thriftiest was the Scion xB at 48 a mile (1.6km) , ahead of the Ford Escort at 56.8 and Jeep Wrangler at 60.4.

The industry average of 312 vehicles was $2.281, yet all the hybrids cost more.

Toyota Prius rated $3.249 and Honda Civic hybrid $3.238, costing more than a full-size SUV Land Rover Discovery ($2.525) or Toyota Camry ($1.954)."

Pretty nice technology ha?

I'll take a Bluetec Diesel over this junk technology any day of the week.
