Study Indicates Americans Now Hate BP EVEN More Than Toyota!
Toyota probably isn't the happiest place to work right now. Apart from the automaker's ongoing recall fiasco, Toyota took a nose dive in J.D. Power's recent Initial Quality survey (from 7th in 2009 to 21st in 2010), and at least one person at the UAW is trying to incite his followers to boycott the brand.
But there is a bit of good news to report: the public doesn't hate Toyota nearly as much as they hate BP.

You can only tear down those who never deserved to be at the top.

Damn, 009...the truth finally comes out. Now I can honestly say through all of your positive Toyota posts, they are merely a means to an equilibrium...or at least that's what you want people to think.
Good looking, Invisible..Wow..."Never deserved to be at the top"...Ummm, you're either at the top or not, so 009...my generation calls it a "Hater"

Mason3Robert- If Toyota stays on top of the heap then they fully deserve to be there. History dictates that this industry is cyclical and Toyota will eventually falter.
Is this the time? IMHO probably not.
BTW: What you call hater, I call realist. I have no ill will to Toyota, however I will be quick to point out that they have been resting on their laurels and taking profit for the last 5 to 6 years. That is not the makeup of a true leader.

Badgewhore- Hmmm not quite sure how to take that. But a compliment might be in there somewhere.
You are right that the Japanese would steam roll everyone. Simply put they are marketing to the center most and softest spot of the industry. They will make sales gains for a while.
I am not entirely convinced that this strategy is the best for long term success.

it's a matter of view. toyotas production systems is, without any doubt, the best in the world. the only thing they suck at is building competitive performance cars.

In a way the spill is the best thing that could have happen to Toyota. It took the eyes off of them AND raised the awareness of needing hybrids.

Badgewhore- Internal demons? LOL, I like that
First of all you are correct about so far there is NO PROOF Toyota guilty of doing anything other than being slow moving bureaucracy. I mean this in the fact they moved way too slow in recalling cars with issues. The fact that a few internal bean counters bragged about the inherent slowness saving them millions may be more of an unintended benefit rather than an intentional move. Right now in my book they are innocent until proven guilty.
To help clarify my stance; Until recently Toyota was leading the news with all of the quality issues. You simply could not get away from it, and there seems to be no end in sight.
When the BP spill came to light it immediately pull all eyes to a bigger problem and honestly put it into perspective. Toyota has been given the time they needed to lick their wounds and move on. The BP spill also highlighted the need to conserve which points directly to Hybrids. So if you want a hybrid you go to the leader which is Toyota, this brings the buyers into the dealers.
In many way BP could be considered the medicine Toyota needed.

Both companies has the same issue and is about safety. This is a great reason to hate them both because put our lifes in danger. BP kill 11 people and billion of fish, birds dolphin and destroy the ocean day by day without a solution . thousand of people lost theirs jobs too and Toyota kill almost 50 people with electronic failures because of the low quality products. This is a great reason to hate them.

The industry in general is prepared to resolve issues in 150 feet of water, not 5,000 feet.

I don't believe there was an outright hate for toyota but an obvious hesitation to purchase due to safety reasons. As far as BP is concern, there actions are inexcusable. I will also blame the environmentalist that have made it inpossible to drill closer to shore where drilling is easier and not controlled by robots along with the ability to react when an accident happens. Also the Obama administrations has rejected help from 13 countries that could have been on site weeks ago controlling the spread of crude. Obama would not sign the order to allow Non-Union foreign workers. That is even more inexcusable.

BTW Obama is investing 2 Billion of our unearned tax dollars to Petrobras in Brazil that is drilling at a 14,000 ft depth.

The dichotomy between toyota's standing last year and this year just proves that the JD Power reports offer little value in the assessment of quality. How can the results for toyota be that much different from last year to this year when there essentially has not been any drastic changes between the design and manufacturing of the cars. The decreased JD Power rating is due to the fact that people now see toyota for more of what it is and not what it perceives it to be. Toyota quality was undeserved and the UA situation has corrected the skewed perception of quality.

Never been a fan of JD Power, nor Consumer Reports which is just as bad. I think the best might be True Delta but it is just now starting to have a large enough database.
