Breaking: 2011 Bmw 5-Series sedan sold out in all markets
Bmw has just announced that it has sold out the 2011 5-Series sedan in all markets, forcing its customers to wait up to four months for deliveries.

Apparently this came after second quarter sales of the manufacturers’ BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce vehicles are in line with the 14 percent gain in the first quarter, at least according to Ian Robertson, BMW’s sales chief. Bmw is now focusing on profitability as Mercedes-Benz and Audi step up efforts to take market share.

This really doesn't make any sense, their are plenty of them sitting on dealer lots in Chicago as we speak.

Maybe "sold out" means that dealers have ordered their maximum allocations, so whatever is on the dealer lots and en route, that's it because the factories are fully booked until next fiscal year.

Haven't they stop selling the previous models months ago. So all orders are for the new models. Of course they will sell out. Now waiting for 4 months for new deliveries is quite a long time to wait.

My local dealer has one demo car at the moment... not sure how their order book is...

"Sold out" generally means the number of orders a company has obtained in relation to their production numbers of that specific product. So in short, there's more demand than supply, hence the long waiting period.

The amount of cars a dealer has on its lot isn't really a good way of measuring "sold out".

Of course it's sold out- they haven't produced any 5er's for months now and people have been waiting.

Let's see in 6 months to a year from now where the numbers are at and we'll see.

Wait 4 months for a 5 series, lol.... right.

Which is smarter? Waiting four months for every comparison test has said is the best car in the class, or spending three to five years in an inferior vehicle just because I was too impatient to wait the four months? Wait four months, or spend years wishing I did? Yeah, I'll wait the four months.

In Europe we have had the car for a couple of months, I dont know when you get it in the states. But it sells well here.

demand is exceeding supply...no surprise there.

re: dealer lots. that's irrelevant (even though my dealer has only 2 testers while all others are sold). production is booked to full capacity for months to come.

make a great product and people will line up for it and pay top dollar. simple as that.

I hope it's reliability is better than the new 7 series. FWIW, I've just passed a brand new 2010 BMW 7 series, new vehicle tags on the side of the road with both blinkers flashing. Owner was on the sidewalk frantically talking to someone on the phone. I would be pissed.

I live in Munich and I've seen a few on the road already. But judging from the license plates these are BMW company cars being driven by executives.

I've seen a couple out on the road.. and I agree, 'Dealer Lot' stock checking isn't accurate... by that logice the 5GT, X1 and X6 are also sold out, as my dealer has neither on it's lot.... although it does have 2 M3 "Edition" models... a yellow one and a blue one. :D
