Does Rolls-Royce REALLY Have To Do This?

Does Rolls-Royce REALLY Have To Do This?
When I was a little spy, I recall seeing a Rolls-Royce Silver Spur and since that moment forward it was defined as the best in style, elegance and luxury.

Apparently, that's not good enough for Rolls-Royce anymore.

Armed with the new Ghost, the hardcore luxury brand is looking to change its image VIA an external public relations firm. Uh, don't Rollers just sell themselves these days? Do they really even need to "brand" themselves?

Also, I am curious what RR considers "young" buyers. Is 50 young? How about 40?

Regardless, is anyone else seeing this as a peculiar move by the legendary marque?

Rolls-Royce is looking to appoint an external PR agency to help rebrand the luxury car maker as ‘cool’.

The firm has reportedly never worked with external PR agencies before and is said to be in talks with several agencies to help market its new Ghost saloon to young, wealthy customers...

I agree its either you got it or you dont. its plain and simple thats like having commercials for the bugatti or any exotic for that fact. you dont need to advertise people know who you are or they can pick up the Dupont Registry if they feel a need to advertise.

No need to market those with the means of purchasing a Rolls will purchase one. I would love to be a Rolls salesman it's like waiting for money to come through the door.

RR owner, BMW, always looks forward about a decade to anticipate future buying trends, and then they try to exploit those trends by being early on the adoption curve. The design BMW cars for younger drivers, so they don't focus on "stately" and "elegant", but rather on "sporting" and "dynamic." That's where the hormones are :-)

I see it as no surprise that BMW's personality is bleeding over into the Rolls Royce brand. They are anticipating who today is the Uber-Rich of tomorrow, and planning for *them* as the next cycle of RR buyers.

Unlike '00R, I don't feel RR is "the best in style, elegance and luxury." Luxury? Sure. To my eyes, they have the style and elegance of a locomotive. Bentley has the more stately, elegant, and understated styling, for sure, where as the BMW-owned RR has turned to a more edgy, aggressive, "modern" styling language.

@Steve

Hm, although styling is a totally subjective topic you have to admit, the Rollers have presence, always.

I cannot say the same for Bentley, whose Flying Spur -- and other "new age" vehicles -- looks mundane in a normal environment.

Why do they keep shooting this vehicle while its cornering in pictures? It keeps looking as if its "hitting switches" (low rider term). Someone actually believes this is a "performance" vehicle?
