EXCLUSIVE: First Real Life Car Shots From Apple iPhone 4-Are They Auto Spies Worthy?
It's hard to believe how Apple can get half the world to stand outside a store for endless hours just to get their hands on the latest new gems they produce.

But once again, Thursday it happened again.

iPhone 4 launches.

And although we didn't have to wait in line (We can't reveal how we got ours but it wasn't pre-ordered), we had the chance today to roam LA so we could fire off the first samples of car shots using the new phenomenon.

We've had iPhones since the first generation but anyone who has used one or seen the photos has been underwhelmed at best.

And if you want my opinion, the quality of the camera technology in all previous iPhones was MISERABLE.

It rivaled the quality from the original QuickTake 100, the first consumer digital camera co-produced by Apple and Kodak in the late 80's.

And I should know, I worked at Apple back then and gave the FIRST digital photography seminar in the world in beautiful Vancouver, BC.

They should not only be ashamed of putting in camera hardware not worthy of the Apple logo, they are partially responsible for some of the worst photos showing up all over the world on social networks like ours, Facebook and others.

So when they announced a 5 megapixel setup, we were cautiously optimistic.

The new Android phone has an 8-Megapixel camera but we have yet to test it.

But remember more megapixels doesn't necessarily mean better shots.

So take a look at these exclusive pics, shot quickly in many different lighting situations and tell us if you think these photos are SPY worthy.

Special thanks to our friend Alex Do at BMW of South Bay and Cindy Madvig at Pacific Audi for letting us shoot their cars.

BTW, you may recognize Cindy from an old Seinfeld episode...see if you can guess which one.

Good, very good for a phone camera! But not great...

Yeah, the A5 Cab looks like bland version of the 1 Series. The black toyotas come off very boring and plain, even a bit awkwardly proportioned. What is that camera doing to those cars?

The white egg-mobile makes me want to throw-up. The little grey hyundai x-over looks ok. Girls look good, Pantera looks great.

wow hard to believe the pics came from a cell phone. damn its no doubt that in a matter of time the digital cameras will become pointless to have after a couple years

Good pics, but that's a bit far-fetched. There's only so much you can do with a lens the size of a pencil eraser. Depth of field, contrast ratio, and low-light are always going to be compromised. You can see these problems easily, take a look at the photo of the woman with all the dirt on her arms and how the background is completely blown.

iPhone 4 has reception problems if you hold the phone the " wrong " way. I think that's a major design flaw.

More mega pixels does not necessarily mean a better picture - there are alot more factors....the HTC actually lost when compared to the iPhone 4

There you go again! You are EXTREMELY obsessed with BMW and Apple! You probably sleep in your Bimmer with an iPad as a pillow at night!

J/k 001. I respect and admire what you do. Just in a good mood on this Saturday. (dont know why) The iP4 is mind blowing. Im actually more impressed with it than the iPad. The camera is awesome considering that its not solely what the device can do. Im more geeked about the video chat (or iChat or whatever its called) than the camera quality. You should take some night pics with it.

Thanks for this article.

HAHA.

Am I obsessed with Audi, MINI, Karman Ghia and all the other cars I shot for the gallery? ;)

@t bone

Bet your expensive mega pixel SLR will have the same problem... try it out and post your shots here. I know I have been shooting against the light and it never failed to produce this kind if result.

You should appreciate that the flare created by the background light didn't wash out the colours of the shot totally - that says about the lens and its coating of the iPhone 4.

I don't know what the dynamic range of the iPhone 4 is, but I'd wager at least a couple F stops less than a DSLR. It's really not even close, but yes this does appear like a great camera to always have in your pocket. It's just that it is a silly idea that this would eventually replace even a decent compact.

I agree with that first part! AT&T really does suck. Thats why my iPhone is unlocked and Im paying $59/mo for my bill (using it with Tmobile).

Yes, very good quality, much better than the 3G!
