Rumor: 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 coming with cylinder deactivation and 480 hp
It appears that Dodge is preparing some changes for the 2011 model year Challenger and according to the latest reports these will include an electric power steering system, a rumored floor pan, new door handles similar to those on the Charger, a wagon-style Dodge Magnum switch to pop the trunk open as well as the new Dodge logo (Ram emblem will be removed on the new model).

Where is the rest of the updates? (Chryslers new v6 will offer 300HP in this application, they plan on adding their new eight speed auto later on, it has a revised interior, it sports a new lower air intake that looks as if they flipped it upside down and made it bigger...)

The horsepower boost will be nice. Lookout Mustang. of course Camaro is no competition, GM takes years to change anything. Excellent choice for the Challenger.

It takes the current SRT8 to run with the SS and GT despite the fact the RT competes with these 2 models im pretty sure from a performance stand point this car will still lag behind the GT500 and the ZR1 if Chevy builds it. The challenger is to big and hulking to be considered a sports car, it has the power looks, and 0-60 but thats about it its more for someone that likes the charger but wants something more sporty maybe....

Responding to first post.

The 300 HP V6 would be nice if they remade a compact to mid sized Roadrunner or GTX. Not to great in the full sized Challenger. A little more HP will be needed to match Japans top V6 models.

300+HP is plenty in a full size car if its weight is kept down.

Even with an 80 horsepower advantage, this hulking tortoise will probably be slower than a base Mustang GT.

I'd rather see a 480lb weight reduction.

Hey, speaking of which, my friend has a 2010 Challenger and he is trying to drop some more weight off the car. He has already replaced the seats, hood, and swapped wheels. He is thinking about removing the AC unit and the back seat, if possible, because he cant come up with anything else. Any suggestions?

yeah buy a new car.....why would you have a car like the Challenger just to remove all that stuff...that goes to show you bought the wrong car

Pretty strong motor there. The Challanger is more of a GT than the other pony cars.
