Porsche still working on a smaller SUV, says German newspaper
According to the German newspaper Handeslblatt, it appears that Porsche is currently planning to add a fifth model to its lineup and this will be a small SUV.

This new car will take on cars such as the Bmw X3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLK. Sources confirmed the fact that the baby-Cayenne will use the platform from the Audi Q5 and the upcoming Q3.

Wow....wonder what convinced Porsche to have a "change of heart" towards the small SUV plan? They initially shot the rumor down by basically saying they'd be against a small SUV in their lineup.

It would be nice to see how much lighter they can make the shared vehicle program though. And this would be a nice little street-machine if given the right engine and suspension setup capabilities.

Also, I'm sure the CFO or some other financial officer has considered the case of a small Porsche SUV in the lineup and how that could had extra coin to their net profits (and help to improve corporate emissions & fuel consumption ratings too).

The Audi Q5 seems to be generally popular so it would seem that a smaller, more affordable 3/4ths-size Cayenne would be easy to sell in the US, at the least. It would definitely take market share away from the SRX and RX.

AWESOME. A lightweight SUV that's as "flingable" as a GTI would be welcomed in this segment. I could only assume they'll be using the same supercharged V6 currently in the Audi S cars.

FAIL! The Q5 shares its longitudinal drivetrain with the A4, while the Q3 will share its transverse drivetrain with the Tiguan. The "platform from the Audi Q5 and the upcoming Q3" is as real as a unicorn, and casts doubt on the credibility of Handelsblatt's "sources".

A4 sounds like a better platform to share things with than the Tiguan.

Lexus RX = Harrier, GX = Toyota Prado Landcruiser. It should be common knowledge to any true car fan. If you don't know then it's called being a naive bandwagoner :)
