EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: New Infiniti G35 sedan- Has the line been drawn against the BMW 3-series?

Infiniti G35 sedan

Infiniti unveiled the all-new 2007 Infiniti G35 Sedan at the 2006 New York International Auto Show. The second generation of Infiniti’s top-selling vehicle was introduced by Mr. Carlos Ghosn, president and CEO, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., at a media event in Javits Center. The new G is scheduled to go on sale in November 2006.

“This new 2007 G35 takes up where the original began – with a clear, unique vision,” said Mr. Ghosn. “It breaks new ground in luxury, styling, performance, quality and craftsmanship.”

The G’s new exterior continues the previous model’s vibrant design theme with clean, athletic styling. Key design elements include sculpted grille blades, iconic headlights and taillights and crisp character lines.

Inside, the all-new interior design is refined, inviting and offers a new level of modern warmth and hospitality. The G interior also offers unique features such as the white-and-violet Fine Vision gauge illumination and high-touch, textured aluminum-alloy trim with “Washi” (traditional Japanese handmade paper) patterning.

Available advanced technologies include RearView Monitor, a touch screen navigation system with available real-time traffic and the audiophile-quality Infiniti Studio on Wheels™ by Bose®, combining the industry’s first 3-way front door speaker array using 10-inch woofers with an audiophile quality head unit incorporating a 24-bit Burr Brown® Digital Audio Converter.

The heart of the G35 remains its advanced engine, platform and drivetrain, anchored by the “next generation” of the award-winning VQ-series 3.5-liter DOHC V6, now rated at an estimated 300-plus horsepower*. The standard V6 is mated to a choice of a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and Downshift Rev Matching or close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission. Solid magnesium paddle shifters are standard on the G35 Sport A/T model.

The G’s second generation FM (Front Mid-ship) platform features a 4-wheel independent suspension with lightweight aluminum components and improved body stiffness. The 2007 G35 is also offered with Infiniti “intelligent” all-wheel drive system.

Comfort and convenience features include standard Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition, available Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), wood trim and Intelligent Cruise Control with Preview Braking.

Mr. Ghosn also provided an update on Infiniti business issues, including the continuing expansion of Infiniti as a globally recognized luxury brand. Infiniti is currently fully established in Taiwan, Korea and the Middle East, with preparations underway to launch in China and Russia.

Seeing as how we've only seen pics and vids and we have no idea as to how the car accelerates and handles...there can be no true comparison to the 3 series yet. However I think both the exterior and interior are very close to BMW quality. This car will maintain and even gain some sales. There is also new technology like a Seagate hard drive used to rip and store music. Plus, the G35 has been designed to be a rolling home theatre. The system is bose though...we'll see.

Overall I think sales will increase but catching BMW 3 series sales is no small feat. I don't think it'll be done this go round but Infiniti will get much closer.

"How can you ever plan on expanding Infiniti as a GLOBAL brand when the company's top of the line performance vehicle will be SOLD AS A NISSAN???"

My thoughts exactly.

The 330i 0-60 in 6.7 second, G35 0-60 in 7.1 second and the new IS 350 0-60 in 5.1-5.5 second, so the IS 350 is fastest in all three cars. G35 is very boring looking sedan compare to the IS 350 and 330i period. Faster than the IS yeah right dream on. Don't belief me, do some research and find out for yourselve. Interior design wise is way inferior to the IS 350 for sure.

As i said before it's going to be 300+HP.

Lexus,i know u like lexus more and also a little biassed towards it, i am also a fan of LEXUS,but give credit where it's need to be given.

In this case,or in this category of cars,
SPORT LUXURY SALOONS,i think new G35 is or will lead the pack.

U have to admit it that G35 is equally good or may be better than the BMW,MB and LEXUS.

ANd for 0-60,it's ging to be under 5 seconds.

Interior wise it's a great blend of Luxury and sport with now much improved quality meterials used inside and out.

Price:Definately ging to be lesser than the BMW or LEXUS.Moreover will worth it.

Exterior:Now this attribute i leave to once personal taste as my suggestion will vary with others.
I think,If not ground breaking like the IS's or 3 series's it's a step forward and in the right direction.

We all know about current car's performance,as this car when came out bursted 288HP,when all other competitors were no more than 250HP.
Now it's getting old and all others moved into their new generation. We must not forget it.

BUT WELCOME THE NEW CLASS LEADING PERFORMANCE COUPE AND SEDAN.2006 INFINITI G35.

And DAVID:"How can you ever plan on expanding Infiniti as a GLOBAL brand when the company's top of the line performance vehicle will be SOLD AS A NISSAN???"

Sources says there's going to be 2 different GT-R models. One with nissan badging and one with Infinit.
Thus inifinti will have more power and some more technology and luxury touches and also a completly new/different body then the SkY LINE GT-R.

For exapmle:
Nissan--------------INFINTI

MURANO--------------FX-35
ARMADA--------------QX56
GLORIA--------------Q
FUGA----------------M
G35-----------------MAXIMA/ALTIMA

SAME WAY

SKYLINE GT-R--------INFINTI 600 GT-R

SKYLINE WILL COMPETE AGAINST NEXT SUPRA.
INFINITI 600GT-R WILL COMPETE AGAINST LEXUS LF-A.

THUS,INFINTI GT-R WILL BE THE TOP OF THE LINE PERFORMANCE VEHICLE,AND WILL BE SOLD AS AN INFINITI.

I THINK IT'S PRETTY CLEAR NOW.

AND ALSO THERE ARE MANY NEW MODELS ON THE WAY FROM INIFNITI,AS CARLOS GHOSN SAID.
HE SAID 11.

SO READY CARMEN,THERE'S GOING TO BE A LOT OF DISCUSSION ON INFINTI,COMING YOUR WAY.

Lexus,

There is no way in hell the current G35 goes from 0-60 in 7.1 seconds. My FX35, a 4200 pound, 280 hp SUV goes from 0-60 in 6.9 sec. I think you are a little off.

Try again.

Also the next G35 WILL be faster than the current IS. With dual throttle bodies and true dual (X-pipe) exhaust, among other things, will push the hp around 320 most likely.

Make your posts a little more reasonable.

I'm hoping you are right about the two different models. I think Nissan should just come out with a 450Z with a design similar but definitely different from the current 350Z. The GT-R should then be badged as an Infiniti. Would that make sense, I don't know, but I like the sound of it.

anyone else find these newer japanese interiors really tacky? i guess having the buttons higher up near the steering wheel makes sense in automatic cars, but they just look awful- they remind me of cheap boom boxes.

Why bringing S8 here.That also a 2001 model.
comparing an old, Full size sports Luxury sedan with the new 2006 Mid size sports luxury sedan.

Maybe u r trying to tell us that if A4 failed to catch-up G35 or 3 series,an older S8 may do that.

Now this shows your level of knowledge or jeolousy or ignorancy.

THis is not the way to replace cars,u can better say like this.

Example 1:
"You'd probably be better off with the new RS4 and an A6L instead of an S8"

Example 2:
"You'd probably be better off with the new S550 LWB and an SL 63 AMG instead of a Maybach"

This is the way to say,not what u did directly compared a whole different car with an entirely different segment of car.

Better don't repaet next time.

The new G is as sweet as its predecessor. The front has an M style to it while the upgraded performance should set the benchmark, again. The wheels, however, need to be more aggressive looking--19 inches no doubt.

Ok accepted i'll go with u.Buy a 2001 S8 over 2006 Sports sedans.No prob
but
Do u know Germans high end luxury or sports CARS are always the least reliable vehicles.Always topping the bottom of the rankings.
They may are cheaper to buy but not to run.
Remember a cheap German car isn't really cheap if the car's repair bills exceed the price paid for it.

I am a dealer, thatswhy i know why these type of cars sells chaper.ANd many serious buyers with a healthy budget always go for the New cars.

What u can expect from a 5 year old high end german cars:
. lots to go wrong, expect high bills
. electronic failures
. deep pockets will be needed when it comes to major services and repairs
. heavy-duty transmission electronics could complicate things
. body rust
. warranties ended

but now u have bought it over a new and vogue model, have agood luck.

My 6 year old 540i feels more solid and powerful than a new G35 with a plastic dash. The G35 is a "nice" dressed up altima

Dang - tough crowd! Well I had 3 BMW's, the last an M5, and currently have an FX45. If this G35 is anywhere close to as much driving fun as the FX45 is, then I'm sold. I think the 330i is an awesome vehicle but if this gets the job done with 9/10ths the performance while packing much more technology (and for less money), then Infiniti has a winner on their hands.

My '05 g35 sedan (black with stone interior) with a sport suspension, 18 inch rims can out handle and flat-out out run these little 3.0 liter 3 series. These anemic engines don't stand a chance against the brawny V-8 feeling 3.5--298 ponies. In addition, it's Japanese built.

2005 G35 don't tell me what I drive and don't be worry your Altima Is a nice car with 298 horse and how much torque? As I said my 99 540I is solid and powerful with 325 lbs of torque. Your high reving eggbeater is not a smooth as my silky V8 so who is the idot. I wouldn't call someone that I don't know a idot. Idiot

JD is a real disgruntled lout. Listen to his rants about how great his beat-up old 1999 Bimmer is. That overweight hog wouldn't stand a chance against the quicker, more nimble & agile G. You would need all 325 lbs-ft of torque to get that hog moving. Be gone, troll.

Have you G35 put on a dyno and see how much power you really have. Your 298 hp and 3 LBS of torque are not accurate haven't you heard. And my 7 year old 540i has smoked every g35 I mean altima it has ever went against. NO low end power!!!

It's 270 lbs-ft of torque, moron. And all 298 horses hit the ground screamin'-barking 2nd and 3rd. I have waxed many bimmers and an old 540 would be no different. I launch my G at 2,500 - 3,000 rpms and that puppy has never disappointed. And the low-end power is great!

Whatever, troll. I have a sedan with room for occupants and the performance to bury any bimmer.

To compare an Infiniti g35 to an Altima is either disingenuous or you are outright disgruntled. What's it gonna be, bimmer boy?

Sedan, your smoked. Next time you see a 540I smoke you don't hit your plastic dash it will break. Let me as you a question why don't M45s and M35 sell. I'll tell you why because people that want a true bimmer buy one unless they can't afford one and then they buy a nice upgraded altima and then they feel like they have a elite sport sedan. Like I said enjoy your car it is "nice" but check you resale value and the condition of your plastic interior in 7 years and you will understand the difference. Infiniti is a nissan not a MB or bimmer or even a lexus!

The Infiniti M is Consumer Report's #1 sedan in its class. It beat out the the Acura RL. I think the 5 series was 5th or 6th place (ROTFLMAO!). What's more, all the other Mags rank the M as #1 or at worst #2. Thus, your last post just confirmed that you have no credibility. I personally think you are a cross between a disgruntled lout and a disingenuous troll.

A Bimmer is a German-Engineered piece of crap. Those cars spend more time in service than do on the road. The Japenese have put quality in Luxury and that's why they win all the awards from the mags.
