Last Chrysler PT Cruiser will roll off the assembly line in July
Within the next week or so, the last Chrysler PT Cruiser will roll off the assembly line. The PT Cruiser’s history is evidence of Chrysler being successful at creating unique and attractive new vehicles.

It also brings to light the company’s failure to build on success. It was in 2000 that the PT Cruiser went on sale. This was at the height of the SUV craze but nevertheless, the compact sedan’s quirky styling and practical interior made it such a hit. As a result, Chrysler was established as a design leader as it sold far beyond its expectations and it became one of the rare American small cars that’s an undeniable hit.

They're still making this piece of crap? All through the bailout? Who the hell buys these things? Good Lord, good riddance.

Not a bad run for a vehicle that was never ment to go into production. Made car of the year. Sold over 1.3 million.

How does a compact crossover like the PT Cruiser correlate to a city car like the Fiat 500?

Completely different markets, and to bad-mouth the PT Cruiser is to never have driven the PT GT, which is loads of fun and utility.

Nope, pt cruiser is tiny, it is after all based on the old neon platform. These cars sell based purely on their cutesy looks. This is why they are comparable, and also in the same market segment.

They need a RWD version with a SRT4. Just for kicks.

The PT Cruiser really never lived up to its intended goals:

1. Instead of bringing younger buyers to the brand as hoped, the car became the darling of aging baby boomers in their 60's.

2. Although looking rather sporty, the chassis and engines were never really capable of much sportiness.

3. And being based on the very low-end Neon, reliability suffered.
