Pretty embarrassing when Acura, and Infiniti are in the 30% range.

Isn't Toyota's volume significantly larger than Honda/Acura? I don't think that is a valid comparison. SMH....

How is a 2.9% gain embarrassing? 009 its embarrassing how unqualified you are to decide what gets posted....we need someone who is NOT biased, unlike 009 (platoA4) so the readers can come to their own conclusions.

2.9% is embarrassing after last year's 20% loss for June sales, last year was abysmal as far as sales go, to only be getting 2.9% back is embarrassing.

Badgewhore... all of Lexus's competition is netting double digit gains... sure the market isn't what it used to be... but it is definitely more than 2.7% then last year.

Am I feeling a tingle in the finger hovering over the ban button for you? Not just quite yet.

Let me explain to you since you fail to grasp the concept here:

Lexus is the leader of the pack, but they are really stumbling badly right now. Lately the only way they have boosted sales is to give incentives. Now they are trying to wean themselves from doing and they get a sales drop.

Now this month Acura and Infiniti BOTH post a 30%+ gain, Mercedes a 25% gain, BMW and Audi both muster a slightly above average 14% gain. And you think Lexus should stand proud with a 2.7% gain?

That is like accepting a "D" paper from an "A" student. There may be a reason but there is no excuse. Figure it out and move on.

Face it though,

Lexus built a well deserved following based on value and reliability.

Over the years as they started to distance themselves from Toyota the vehicles became more expensive, but maintained the reliability. The strategy worked and Toyota made tons of money. Now the reliability is in serious question and they have lost their trump card. Just in case your head was in the ground, look no further than the HS250 recall a few days ago, and the new one for faulty engines today. Two recalls inside of a week?

I hate to say it, but it isn't over with yet. The public no longer buys the quality card, and they have nothing but joker in the deck.

009, I don't see how you can sya that Lexus is s"tumbling badly right now." This is the problem with your snapshot analysis. You did this last year too when Lexus lost some momentum for a couple months. They then surged back into the lead as BMW and MBZ stumbled. (This was reported without the same fanfare, natch.) So yeah, go on with your headlines. Just remember that one month does not a trend make.

Bmw8ter- No god like syndrome here. Some people just need to remember they are a "guest" on this site.

The root of the Lexus sales performance is they were down like 20% in June of 2009 from 2008. Now June 2010 comes around and they gain back 2.7%? Yes it is a gain over the prior year but still a loss over 2008.

Most people see a % gain and don't take the time figure out what it took to get there. A case in point is Chrysler posting a 35% increase. Fantastic until you saw they had an almost 50% drop the prior year so they are at least 10 to 15% behind 2008.

I actually like "vladyxa" he has caught a few errors, which keeps me on my toes. While no one likes a smart a$$, constructive criticism is always listened to. You don't wear out your welcome with me as long as you are mindful that you are a guest.

Paperboy on tricycle "Joe_Lemon_Tits"...speaking non-sense again?!?!...so what's new? On another note any "positive" gain is a good gain. In this auto industry momentum can shift back and forth. It's the nature of the beast. As for 009, you may want to look into other careers, just the title of this article alone(also many others) shows you don't have a full grasp on the automotive sector...but i will give u the benefit of the doubt. So try again! ;-)... LMFAO!!! Peace!

lol, keep trying with that name, it might just catch on lol. If you have a job where your boss cuts your salary 20% one year, and only raises it 2.7% the next year, I'd love to see you being excited about it.

oh no, following the analogy it wouldn't be because your boss would go broke, all your coworkers who also had that 20% pay cut last year just got a 30% pay raise because they are performing better than you!

Hmm so you klike TTAC's headline better?

"Toyota June Sales Gain 7 Percent, Lose Market Share"

how about their view point?

"That means Toyota is slowly falling behind, now that it no longer has either an untouchable reputation or record incentives. Old standbys like the Camry and Corolla may have increased, but only to the tune of single digit growth. Meanwhile, Lexus, Scion and Toyota cars performed worse than June of 2009, leaving trucks to bring Lexus and Toyota sales up into the low double digits."

Considering they couldn't even sell the HS250h for the second half of the month, which happens to be the busiest times of the month, and considering all their sedans are at the end of their product cycle... a gain is not embarrassing. The reason why Acura and Infiniti has such large increases is because they whored out cars last month with ridiculous incentives... and they had such terrible sales in 2009, that it really could not have gotten any lower... just saying.

The sales figures represent sales from the manufacturer to the dealer. What really counts happens when the commercial or retail buyer pays the the dealer. Toyota has the most aggressive dealers, managers and salespeople in the country. In my opinion, Jim Moran was one of the major contributing factors for the unbelievable success of Toyota. From Chicago and at one time the worlds largest Ford Dealer. Mr. Moran passed away a few years ago. He owned Southeast Toyota Distributors. His daughter still runs the company.
