Rumor: Volkswagen considering new model based on Suzuki SX4
There’s an unconfirmed report that Volkswagen is developing a new crossover model to be based on the Suzuki SX4. VW is undertaking this project to fill the slot between the Tiguan and the other compact models.

VW determined that developing a vehicle that will be based on the SX4 would be the easiest and most affordable solution. According to Autozeitung, the future model will come with either front- or all-wheel drive, similar to the original SX4.

Problems per 100 cars -

Volkswagen = 135

Suzuki = 122

Only 2 other manufacturors scored worse than VW. Mitsubishi and Land Rover lol.
VW has some work to do before it will be as reliable as Suzuki ;)

The success of the SX4 is its AWD. Just give us a restyled Beetle with AWD already.

The SX4 is not unreliable. Please look at the latest Consumer Reports auto issue. In it, you will find that the SX4 is one of the top 10 cars. I have a 2010 SX4. For the price, it's the best 4 wheel drive vehicle on the market. Great gas mileage, and VERY reliable!

Actually once the SX4 based Volkwagen actually hits the road it will probably prove to be the most reliable car in Volkswagen entire line-up lol. From 2008 and up the Suzuki SX4 has had top scores in both reliability and lowest cost of ownership in its segment.
Good move on VW's part. This will help improve the brands reliability scores. VW will also be selling another re-badged Suzuki based on the Suzuki Splash. That one will be the new Polo for India and other markets.

VW could learn a thing or two from Suzuki about reliability, for sure. And we all know Suzuki isn't at the top of the game either. But it's all about good, better, best. Suzuki would sooner get my money than VW.

I agree tango. If you look around the web. Suzuki is the #1 sold vehicle in Japan. I'll paste it in.

Suzuki: More Than You Think

“Suzuki builds more cars than Mazda, BMW and Subaru combined.”

“Suzuki has been profitable for 58 years straight.”

“Suzuki has made the #1 selling car in Japan for the last 5 years.”

Three very strong statements. From a very strong, international manufacturer of fine automobiles. Suzuki does things that will surprise you, amaze you, please you, and open your eyes to a world-wide brand that sets “personal bests” year after year.

Look it up.
