What New Vehicles Despite All The Hype Just AREN'T Making It For You? Tell Us Who's FAKE?

What New Vehicles Despite All The Hype Just AREN'T Making It For You? Tell Us Who's FAKE?
A large part of a vehicle's sales and positive market perception has to do with how much hype the PR/Marketing/Advertising people can successfully create, whether intentional or not.

An intentional example would be the Hyundai Super Bowl blitzes and Land Rover's Victoria Beckham whatchamacallit LRX move yesterday.

Princess Di is turning in her grave over that one.

An unintentional example would be the Tiger Woods/Escalade crash.

Both created buzz for their repective brands.

Then add on the gushing, syrupy, glowing reviews for EVERYTHING from the 'in the pocket' mainstream auto media and a consumer doesn't know WHAT vehicles are the real deal or fabricated fluff.

So we want to know of all the vehicles being bombarded at you on the telly, print, billboards and net, which one just AREN'T making it for you? Name the FAKERS. Companies AND Models.

I'll give you a few of mine to give the first stir to the pot:

1. Ford SVT Raptor- Coming from a former F-150 owner/lover, this is not good news. I SHOULD be WOWED but I'm not. YAWN. Wrong product, wrong time.
2. New Infiniti M-Series-Still Casio's trying to compete against Rolexes. If I spend that much, I want the real thing, not a fake.
3. Jaguar XF and XJ- Very good products but in the position they are in they need to be north of spectacular in every way shape and form. Including dealership experiences. B efforts that need to be A++++++ and they're not.

These are just a few that come to mind to me.

What are yours and WHY are they on your list?

You are exactly right, this is flame-bait. People, do not fall for it.

Agent001 is just angry the new 5-Series came in DEAD LAST in the new C&D comparison. He said "people" were calling the new M a joke compared to the new 5-Series.

Guess what Agent001, the joke is on you, HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Now he is just making a childish post about the Infiniti and trying to start a flame war. The new M and XF are both excellent. Too bad Agent001 is blinded by brand bias to realize that.

People here are too smart to fall for this flame-baiting.

S007, I don't see anywhere where 001 mentioned the 5-Series above when he talked about the Infiniti M. It's called "Prozac", look into it.

Yes, JRobUSC I know your feelings are hurt just like 001's. Don't take it too personally. If you think "Prozac" is what I should "look into", USC has failed you miserably. Go back to school and take a Pharmacology class.

Ah yes, personal attacks, the last resort of an indefensible position in a debate. Kid, I don't need to be a pharmacist to know a happy pill might help a paranoid conspiracy theorist. 007 has every right to dislike the M. You have every right to disagree. My problem with you is that you're "that guy", the one who doesn't believe other peoples opinions are as valid as yours and immediately goes on the offensive. You can attack me too if it makes you feel like a grownup but again, 007 never mentioned the BMW. Or the Benz, or the Audi, or any other specific brand when he said he didn't like the M. Nope, that was all you. Here's your pill. Have a mellow July 4 buckaroo.

Look in the mirror little man, there was absolutely no need for you to reply to any of my previous comments. On the other hand, your feelings got so hurt that you will do anything to defend your brand. Maybe you should be looking into taking a "pill" for having so much of an emotional attachment to an inanimate object. It's not healthy.

The Dodge Caravan where the narrator questions why you wouldn't buy one because of the ratings and the buy-back. I think he mentions the looks at one point. Sorry. That thing is dog ugly, and the buy-back provision isn't sweetening the deal. I'll take an SUV, even if it makes puppies cry.

Chevy Volt.
We are not ready yet on a large scale. We cant even get NGV's (Natural Gas Vehicles) going on a large scale. Natural gas is in abundance yet there are very few stations to fill a vehicle. Imagine how long it will take to get power pack swap out stations. Unless you just plan on driving 300 miles and waiting hours for a recharge, if there is a place to plug in. Thats a lot of money to spend on a car not to be able to travel anywhere. Good luck Government Motors.

Agent001,

Looks like you still have hurt feelings that the new 5-Series came DEAD LAST in the latest C&D comparison. It can't even beat an old out-dated A6. Sad...

...and BTW, a Rolex is for poor people living in the past. Maybe you haven't heard of Vacherin Constantin, Patek Philippe, Hublot, and Louis Moinet Magistralis.

In all honesty 001 who cares what you think BMW fan or not to say the M is like comparing a Casio to a Rolex is just foolish I dont like the way the car looks but its interior appears to be top notch and according to reviews ive seen in person its materials are top notch. As far as Jaguars the XF and XJ are excellent efforts and while the XF may not have the sales of its top selling competition its certainly not bottom of the barrel by any means they are both highly competitive. This is just another ridiculous post to get people to start trashing other brands simply because you are knocking these cars again who cares.....stop this internet trash and start producing read worthy post and articles....

I think it's funny that you think i picked these cars because the new 5 lost to them in the latest C&D.

And if you read my comments about them, I didn't say ANY were bad vehicles.

The headline says what vehicles don't do it for YOU.

And my list show ones that don't do it for me and why.

If my neighbor bought would I think they made a mistake?

Not at all.

Grading the new Jag's a 'B' says they're very good.

But since they're in like 14th place, they're not going to do much more than move them to 12th place at best.

YAWN.

Which makes them still irrelevant to most of the world.

I'm sure that doesn't make them happy.

Another way to look it is have you even been to a party and some of the men are hot for a certain Betty but she doesn't do it for you because although Bettie's are fine fro them, you prefer DYNO-Bettie's.

Don't make them wrong...SOMEONE has to take the girl home.

I'm mostly interested in finding out your tastes and why you swing one way or the other carwise.

Happy 4th Super Spies!

The XF has beaten the other cars in this class in more than one test the XJ hasnt been compared yet. My point is that you say these outrageous borderline ignorant comments that have no backing what so ever. Clearly the XF isnt a bottom of the pack performer and AGAIN while it isnt selling as well as the competition and in all honesty really isnt meant to, Jaguar's biggest flaw right now is perception not the fact that their car's arent competitive the entire lineup right now is great but Jaguar simply has a bad name for reliability among many people not to mention Jaguar isnt really a brand that ever really sold in the mass volumes others have they should be focusing on profit rather than sheer revenue numbers anyway which I think they said they were doing. To some people driving something more exclusive that everyone on the block isnt driving may also be important or something that has a gorgeous interior and exterior styling either way they are both great cars to recommend to anyone and arent B efforts by any stretch

- David Zenlea, Assistant Editor (Automobile Magazine)

"I haven't spent enough time with either car to make a final determination, but my initial impressions of the Infiniti M and the BMW 5-series -- both of which are revamped for this year -- tell me that the Infiniti might be better. Like the 5-series, the new M does just about everything well. It's comfortable, quick, attractive, and shrinks around the driver in a corner. But in addition to that all-around excellence, the Infiniti adds enough flair to make it just a bit more fresh and exciting than the Bimmer. You can see it in the beautifully grained wood on the center console, the voluptuous curves of its sheetmetal, and the flawless ease of its telematics. As I said, it's too early to officially dethrone the 5-series as the best in the segment, but the student just might have become the master."

OUCH!!!

Hurts doesn't it Agent001? Hahahaha...

Okay let's try a post that actually pertains to what I see advertised vs. what I like and how it matches up....

Ford has been pushing their F-150 recently and I gotta tell you the new design just doesn't do it for me at all.....

Also not a big fan of the new Volvo XC60- they've been advertising using the "Eclipse" movie and it looks lame.

But what I really have to knock is MINI. They pull an immature stunt by taking on the 911 and they LOST. My point is would they have done this 4 years ago when MINI's were all the rage? I don't think so. Now their numbers have stalled and instead of new products (the Crossman is lame)we get cheap shots at Porsche. Not that 911 sales are great but to Mini I have to say people who live in glass houses.............

Every BMW on sale now is hyped by the media. Plain and simple. No matter how good another car is, no matter how fast, how well-handling, how well built, media-types will always talk bullshit about how a BMW "makes the driver feel". Okay, have a love affair with the badge on the steering wheel all you guys want. I'll pass.

@ Larrybel2000: If manufacturers listened to people like you we would still be driving cars powered by coal and boiling water. Your post tells me that you are not at all well-read into how the Volt functions. The Volt is a hybrid that uses an electric motor to drive the wheels. However, that electric propulsion comes from either power stored in batteries (engine usually not being driven during this event), or in the event of battery depletion or extra power, the engine kicks in and runs a generator that runs the drive motor. That means that the car can theoretically run without a battery. Just stop at a regular gas station, fill up the tank and drive away. Reading is fundamental. Your babble is typical of political bandwagonists who are pissed off that there was a government sponsored bauilout of GM (the G stands for GENERAL, in case you have forgotten). This also speaks to your lack of understanding of sound Keynesian macroeconomic principles, namely expansionary fiscal policies that most governments have at their disposal. Get over it. Your tax dollars were used to keep American workers in their jobs, and not to drop bombs on some God-forsaken desert far away. That seems like a good tradeoff to me.

How about the tarted-up nissans with the hilarious taglines about class-leading horsepower and luxury; talk about hyperbole....

Unless someone isnt used to real luxury, I dont see how anyone could consider an infiniti luxurious. Maybe theyre finally getting somewhere with the new m, but as of yet, the insides have felt like nothing better than nice nissans--nothing special. The refinement isnt there, that solid, made-of-granite feel of the germans is missing, and the feeling of overall quality and expense is nowhere to be found.

And I just dont get why they brag about having "class-leading horsepower" when it's clearly only on paper; the 335 and is take turns gang-raping the g at the track, just like the 535, a6 and gs3 beat down the new m--ALL while having MUCH more refined and smoother engines that dont sound like theyre coming apart as the revs climb.

Sorry nissan, but you just cant fool me with your hype. Maybe you can get over on ignorant costco-shopping consumers who want a bargain, but us buyers who dont clip coupons will keep moving.....
