Do The Math: Toyota Latest Ad Says They Invest $8.76 Billion A Year On Your Safety?

After my post giving the details of Toyota’s Star Safety System, one reader, using the handle “metrichead,” requested more information on another Toyota safety-related advertising campaign.

“I would like the NYT to fact check their other claim in these ads, that Toyota is spending $1 million per hour on safety! That equates to $8,760,000,000 per year?”

Actually, that’s not exactly what the ad said. Here’s the wording in one commercial: “At Toyota, we care about your safety. That’s why we’re investing one million dollars every hour to improve our technology and your safety.”

As that is said by the announcer, red type proclaims: “Investing in your safety.”

1 Million dollar an hour based on current spending rates towards technology and safety.

They don't not lock down to a number on safety alone nor define what technology is. Technology could be new ABS brakes or an automated DVD system for the passengers.

There is a commercial that says it.

numerouno- Kudos for the response on the BB. The only issue I have with the ad is that they are being purposely vague. Technology and safety all sound good. But what is "technology", and why can't you break it out a bit more. Right now all I see is one big number that really doesn't tell me much. Sort of like a JD Power score, I have a number! but what does it mean?

Too bad all three people were the same person. Hopefully he can play well at the next site he goes to, because he has left our sandbox.

009 cleaning house! It seams these Toyota guys where so desperate that they had to invent other people to like that crumby brand. I always knew by the writing style this was going on. Good job 009 picking the cat litter out of sand box!

Crack and smack is big business friends. Whether you're fighting it, buying it or trafficking it....somebody's getting paid. And that somebody is driving one or two vehicles that many of us can only dream about. Sick world huh?

If the Government is trying to stop Americans from smoking crack and other drugs, they would enforce current boarder laws and arrest those that cross and break our laws which includes a huge drug cartel. But it seems the Obama regime is more interested in defending the illeagels than American citizens. Americans bought Toyotas because of the good quality Toyota worked many years to accomplish. Toyota is paying the price and have destroyed that immage they worked for by choosing to grow to fast and thats a shame. This goes for any manufacture. Americans don't have to smoke crack to understand that fact.
