Mazda anticipates that its subcompact sales in the US will double by 2012 to 1 million annually. And to achieve this, Mazda is placing its hopes on its 2011 Mazda2 being a major player in a subcompact surge in the next two years.

Included in this segment are the following models: the Honda Fit, Kia Soul, Mini, Nissan Versa, Scion tC and Toyota Yaris. Mazda predicts that a majority of the sales will come from Generation Y, comprised of about 73 million people from 16 to 32.

This car will sure be a success, with Toyota's recalls, and Honda's horrible designs lately, the Mazda combines a fuel efficient and fun car in one package. If anything like its older sibling the Mazda 3 it will sell! Seeing as how gas prices aren't that low, this car will do well, and it looks good too ;) !

The car gets 35 MPGs and its going to start under 14k . Sounds like a good combo to me. That is the only Sub-compact I would ever consider. The Toyota is a piece of crap, Nissans is a joke, Hondas is decent little car but UGLY.

My thought is that the crappy mileage is due to the relatively close ratio transmissions that Mazda uses in order to add a bit of zoom zoom. If they had a taller final drive, the mileage would be better.
