Report: Jeep has no plans to sell a diesel-powered 2011 Grand Cherokee in the U.S.
For its North American market, Jeep doesn’t plan on offering a diesel version of the redesigned 2011 Grand Cherokee in the near future. But for Europe, Jeep will start exporting the diesel-powered Grand Cherokee early next year.

At a press event, Phil Jansen, the Grand Cherokee’s chief engineer, said that before offering the model to North America, “the business case has to make sense.”

I swear to god Jeep is restarted because every wrangler owner wants the 3.0 Diesel that was offered in the last Grand Cherokee. All they need to do is buy the rights to manufacturer 2.9 litter Italian engine used in the next gen Cadillac CTS in Europe...Add Ad-Blue urea to pass emmisions and PRESTO! But they don't want to spend the money on R&D and actually make a car people want! LOOK at VW's sales success on deisle...Hello McFly and Marchione anyone home at Chrysler?

Why is it that the rest of the world has the Jeep diesel option but North America? As a Jeep owner (I've had five) the dielel would be my first option. HELLO Jeep are listening, sadly no.

They really should offer a diesel for the new Grand Cherokee in the US. Seems like a no-brainer.

The case for diesel in the US is tough because Americans don't generally move from life-long convictions. They see diesels as smoky and loud because the rig their uncle drove back in the 80s was like that. No amount of proof or statistics will change their minds. If I had the money I would be driving a diesel car or truck right now. But the economy, and my college education dictate that my ass stays put in the gasoline car I have now.

We need Diesels in the new Grand Cherokee here in America. If those looking for a Grand Cherokee don't buy them, well.....they're stupid (unless a hybrid option comes along that can make the car faster and tow a little bit more while increasing MPG, in which case, shit, I'll sell my A8.)
