304hp Camaro getting 42mpg??

304hp Camaro getting 42mpg??
Recently I have seen billboards posted up around my city stating that the new Camaro gets 42mpg! A quick google search later revealed the following official GM document confirming the billboards.

What say you spies? Is this possible? Or is this pure marketing spin?

I am curious what the real world mileage would be? This sounds impressive.

That would be 42MPG to the imperial gallon as this is taken from a GM Canada ad. Canada converted to the metric system years ago, but many manufacturers will still provide MPG rating. A quick conversion to US MPG would see the rating pegged at 35 US MPG

How can we in the USA complain about the price of gas? We pay less for a gallon of gas than we do a gallon of milk. CAFE has only managed to make our cars more expensive, not more efficient. What drives the move towards more efficiency has always been and will be the market, not the government. All the legislation has done has been to force the manufacturers to find ways to make their cars more complex and more expensive instead of more reliable and longer lasting. Our market demands bigger engine and more power; either that or some false sense of security and some kind of trendy self-image in buying a "green" machine. This is why we're not getting the great diesels Europe has...no one over here will buy them. They would rather pay over-inflated prices for hybrids than get truly more efficient engines.

Generally speaking, 42mpg may sound like a lot in the US but in Europe that's just scratching the surface of the possibilities. Now a vehicle with a 3.6L V6 and weighing close to 4000 pounds getting 42mpg? Now that's something to look at. Is it possible? I say it is. These manufacturers and the oil companies MUST be in cahoots. Think about it, the oil companies (with their bullshit petroleum prices) are forcing consumers towards more efficient cars. But the manufacturers aren't providing these cars willingly. It's almost as if the manufacturers want us to suffer. Government laws have to take over where common sense should be leading. Thanks to the much-hated CAFE standards that are only going to help us in the long run, we're seeing fuel economy as bragging rights. Imagine that?

Apparently, Canadian fuel mileage standards are a lot different than EPA measurements used here in the US. All of those numbers look a little off.

That's the thing, I have no idea what the "Canadian" standard is, personally, I've never heard of it and have always used EPA.

Hey Joe nice article BTW. Ive checkad all my sources at GM and we have arrived at 28 MPG for the Camaro. 42 Kilometers equals to about 26 MPG so slighty lower than what I was told. So I am curious to know if the sign should have read Kilometers rather than miles per Gallon.

kilometers per gallon is just silly :) nobody would mix imperial and metric units so badly.

You would be surprised Joe.

And we should believe this why? Cuz you say so? Reduce yourself to the level of a ninth-grade essay writer and back up your claim, GM, or just STFU.

These mpg miles are in UK gallons which is 4.5 litres per gallon. If you convert 12.3 L/100km it comes down to 19 mpg (US) or (23 mpg UK) and 6.8 L/100Km, this becomes 42 mpg UK (34mpg US).
Even 34mpg US this is quite good.

Now all it needs is a bigger back window to see out of!
