VIDEO: BMW's 1M Becomes OFFICIAL And BMW M's President Has A Message For YOU
The source of all things 1-Series M1/1M/Tii/whateverthehellthey'llcallit, Scott26, has some more loose lips AND a revealing interview have made things official.

Dr. Kay Segler has finally come out in an interview about the 1M; it's real, folks.

From the looks of things, 2011 will be a busy year for M GmbH as the next-generation M5 and M6 are due to make their appearance.

**Read all of the interesting details below and check out the video with Dr. Segler's message to BMW fans.

From another 1Addicts story:

Interview with Dr. Kay Segler of BMW M Division

What might such a model be like?
This model will be based on the BMW 1 Series Coupé and also be focused on the essentials - the fascination of driving. And it will reflect a love of detail, too.

Will the model be called BMW M1?
We have discussed this point too. BMW M1 is a name with powerful historical associations. So we have decided to follow our second nomenclature method. In the tradition of the BMW Z4 Roadster and of the current models BMW X5 M and X6 M we will put our brand identifier at the end of the name, so our new model will be called the BMW 1 Series M Coupé.

When can we expect to receive further information?
We will be publishing more detailed information before Christmas. And we may release the odd detail beforehand. Wait and see!

Where will the information be provided?
You can register here on the M Power World homepage. In this way you can be sure not to miss any information on the BMW 1 Series M Coupé.

From when will the BMW 1 Series M Coupé be supplied?
You can expect the first vehicles to be with customers in the first half of 2011.

What else is in store in the near future?
There is a lot more for BMW M fans to look forward to in the second half of 2011 as well. We will be presenting the next generation of the BMW M5 with V8 turbo engine. But let's talk about the details another time.

From Scott26:

Football disappointment over and no point dwelling on what could have been. So back to work...

We are currently shooting the BMW 1 Concept M on the volcanic island of Lanzarotte along with the new 6er.

The location is quite familiar within BMW as the E63 6er was shot here , as was the M3 and X6 and of course the BMW 135i. We cannot get to LA until later this summer until some giant Robots finish their war in Chicago, so we can use sophisticated gyro cameras that track fast movement and high speed...

This car will be a pocket rocket.

Who needs 1M besides M3 and M5? BMW'd rather come up w/ some cheapo than something that can proudly stand up to 911 turbo or GT-R.....

Enough of slack.

Idiot.

Just like saying "who needs a 160hp Lotus elise when there's 260hp v6 camrys out there"

The 1M and M5 are different beasts for different kind of driving. Your comment is a total proof of ignorance about automobiles.

BS.

Of course BMW CAN make a 1M. Hell, they can M the 5GT or X1 as well, and you'll probably say "they are all different beasts for different kind of driving". Ya right.... I'm saying where's the real McCoy? Your comment is a total proof of ignorance about sports car, just like what BMW did.

Essentially this is a BMW's FOCUS RS, and unfortunately some people like cheapo replica. So be it.

Wow. Bet this is gonna be a great car.

My only worry (based on pricing) would be the 1M competing with/cannibilizing the BMW cash-cow of a loaded 335i.

Should have awesome performance, just wish it didn't look like a clown car.

I doubt the 1M will cannibalize many 335i sales. I think these cars will appeal to different needs. And if they do, my guess is that the gross margins will be equally healthy for the 1M - - - so a zero net loss for BMW. The real challenge for BMW will to to steal sells form the Porsche Boxster/Cayman buyer as well as the tuner crowd (WRX STi, Golf GTI, etc.)

People don't cross shop 2 seat Porsche w/ a 4 seat BMW.

I think it will have a similar power train to the 335is, I don't think they'll go all out with the 4.0L V8.

The 1M will kick some serious ass.

You mean M3/5/6's? Cause I know this car cannot be faster than STI on Nordschleife. And if it did, M3/5/6 got serious problems then.

I'm glad they're making an M version of the 1 Series. I highly doubt, though, that I'll choose it over the M3. Based on looks alone, the 1 Series is the ugliest and base on these spy shots, it's not really a 'looker' compared to the M3.

Maybe BMW is targeting the demographic which enjoys driving rather than those who want or need to look pretty.
