SIGN THIS -- BMW's 30 Frozen Gray M3 Buyers Subjected To
Although Bimmerfest's "tim330i" put it way better than I did by saying "...there are a few interesting extra steps BMW is making them perform to get their new babies," he essentially hit the nail on the proverbial head.

**Thanks for the tip, Tim.

But we are a little intrigued; is signing an agreement a bit over the top?

I mean, why not just inform customers of the proper way to care for the vehicle instead of signing more paperwork that would probably ensure that buyers are basically screwed if anything goes wrong?

What do you think, SPIES?

BMW's Suggestions to avoid paint damage -
  • Never polish or wax the frozen gray paint as it could lead to a glossy surface.
  • If washing your frozen gray M3 in a automatic car wash (you should be killed) choose a car was that does not apply vehicle wax Rinse the M3 with high pressure water to remove dirt before sending it through the automatic car wash to avoid scratches from sand, dust and other micro-particles.
  • Remove bugs, bird poo, tree sap, tar, fuel spills or oil immediately using a soft sponge.
  • Avoid strong rubbing while cleaning the frozen paint. BMW sells suitable products for maintaining the frozen paint at your local dealer.
  • Repairs to the paint (scratches, dents, etching) must be completed by a BMW trained body shop. Most auto body shop will not be capable of repairing the frozen gray paint....

I say just hire a BMW engineer to live with you full-time and your set.

Make sure to remember to leave some Bratwurst and Beer under the tree at Christmas time.....

So will the owner be sent to jail if he/she repaints the car to a different color?

I assume you are joking since that is a ridiculous question. Here is a question for you. If you were buying a $78k car that had a rare and unique finish would you expect the manufacturer to make it very clear what was entailed in caring for it before you took delivery? Whether you would or wouldn't choose a car like that is moot since they were sold out in 12 minutes, but if you did buy one, wouldn't you want to know how to care for it?

it's all basic logic. my guess is that anyone that loves these delicate matte finishes is going to be a fanatic who hand washes the car like a baby anyway.

Matte finishes in general are VERY difficult to upkeep. My friend is a jeweler and he says the biggest mistake made is when people choose matte finish over polished, whether ring or watch, because it really really shows scratches much more obviously.

I'd rather just put that wrap on the car like that one BMW Blogger, that was really cool, and you can take it off at any time.

I doubt BMW said "you should be killed" in a notice on how to take care of your matte finish.
