Kia named one of 10 companies that may disappear in 2011.

Kia Motors Corporation is one of the two car brands of Hyundai of South Korea. It has always been a marginal brand. Its stable mate, Hyundai USA, has a reputation for high quality cars like the Sonata and Genesis. Kia sells “low rent” cars and SUV nameplates like the Sorento and Rio. As GM and Ford have already discovered, it is expensive to maintain multiple brands and storied car names, including Pontiac, Saturn, and Mercury, are disappearing.

Kia could be droped for the purpose of makink hyundia the budget brand since the name will never work for the cars like the Equus and thw Equus my became a brand by itself for hyundias lux division.

It is so easy for so-called journalists to push their own agendas as fact, simply because they have an audience. I wonder where this person is getting their information from. Has this moron actually seen the Forte and the Soul? Have they actually read the sales figures? In June Kia outsold Audi, BMW, Mazda, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, Subaru, SAAB, Suzuki, Volvo, and Volkswagen, among the mainstream brands. In fact, Kia outsold Audi, Mazda, Mitsubishi, SAAB, Suzuki, and Volkswagen combined.

Of course Kia will outsell Audi, BMW, and MB. The average price of a Kia is a lot, lot less than the average price of those premium marques.

UAW LAX as usual has made an error (both in judgement and choice of union). Its "brand" not company. The article he links to clearly talks of "brand"
value . In a simplified nut shell , it looks at what the name adds to the value of the product . That most people don't have a perceived value for the Kia brand in the US means its products will sell for a premium if branded by it sister company Hyundai or under a new brand.

The goal for Hyundai would be to invest in improving tis KIA brand or rebranding the vehicles it makes for the Kia name.

The cars made by KIA are rather good and are fairly successful as a brand in the South Korean market

VW too has many brands that sell pretty much the same car (Skoda, Seat ) that do rather well but are in essence Golf's and Jetta's with different skin .

Izfunny, invisible or who ever you may be today. You need to read the article and my post. I not once said they would go out of business.

I think quite the opposite... I think the Korean car market is here to stay... their styling is becoming more European looking than the European cars, and the reliability is getting close to that of the Japanese brands... Hyundai/Kia have made such huge improvements in just the last 5 years, I can only image what other bold moves they will make in the next 5.

I dont see it happening because they are at an aggressive price point given the economy. of course, it also remains to be seen how well they budget and if there is any profit in their vehicles.
