SPIED: NEW Interior Shots Of BMW's 1M, Stealing From The M3's Parts Bin?

SPIED: NEW Interior Shots Of BMW's 1M, Stealing From The M3's Parts Bin?
After a long wait, BMW has finally come completely clean about it producing an M variant of the 1-Series.

And in the words of an auto writer, Michael Banovsky, "Hey, look! An E30 M3 in a fat suit."

If you ask me, I firmly believe this is exactly what the 1-Series was destined for -- an M.

But, after examining the latest spy photos, thanks to 1Addicts, it appears that the prototype is sporting some of its big brother's gear. While there is no clear indication that this mule will reflect the production car, we would not be surprised if the 1M did steal some bits and pieces from the M3.

If that is the case, would the 1M leer you away from the M3? Why or why not?

Could the 1M shape up to be the most pure of the current crop of Ms?

**NOTE: did anyone catch the new iDrive screen? This design was also spotted on the new 3-Series mule. Is this a sign of things to come?

Let us know in the comments below...

Here are some more pictures of the 1-series M, including the first interior shots. This is still the prototype, so it's subject to changes, but so for we have M3 seats, M3 steering wheel and different gauges (not sure if the two-tone dials are here to stay). Fuel cutoff appears to be at 7,000 rpm. Contrary to some reports, you can also see a proper LSD...

"If that is the case, would the 1M leer you away from the M3? Why or why not?"

Size, weight, performance and value. Back in the day, M3's didn't cost 70 grand, so I see this as a return to the formula that made the M division so successful in the first place.

"*NOTE: did anyone catch the new iDrive screen? This design was also spotted on the new 3-Series mule. Is this a sign of things to come"

This iDrive screen has been out on the current 1'er since MY 2010. It replaced the fold up Nav screen on 2008-2009 models. It has the same interface and functions as the current HDD iDrive in the 3,5,7 etc. The F30 3-series test mule spotted was using a 1'er dashboard as camo and will NOT be using this layout.

I think it's safe to say that ALL Bmws steal from the same parts bin.

What does "leer you away" mean?

He means "lure you away". It is further proof that you don't need to be either literate or know anything about cars to write for an internet automobile website.

@pcar4evr

Nope, meant what I wrote. I know you're still stuck on that 5th grade reading level:

Leer - "to look obliquely" (now usually implying "with a lustful or malicious intent")

The point is "if car "X" and the CTS Coupes were side-by-side, would the CTS' looks lead you to give it a shot/test drive/purchase?"

Critical thinking, it's tough huh?

Thanks pcar4evr, what you said makes sense. The next explanation that "leer" was correct and the following insults to you make no sense.

Works well for Toyota/lexus where just about all cars from the ES to the Venza parts and frame start with the Camry.

Agent oor, you would have been much smarter just saying that you made a mistake and not trying the lame excuse that you meant "leer". But don't worry, if Agent 001 hasn't fired you yet for the crap you write, he'll probably give you a pass on this, too.

this is going to be an amazing car but im sure it will be very expensive. it will be a good alternative to someone looking for a loaded 335i.. i guess i would get one, but would prefer an M3 because of the size.
