Akio Toyoda WANTS A New Supra, But Does The Rest Of Toyota?
After Akio Toyoda had the chance to drive an older generation Toyota Supra around "The Green Hell," Toyoda implied he has had a fire under his bum to create a proper sports car going into the next decade.

In fact, he said he “would like to create a car that is better than the Supra,” which is a pretty tall task.

Problem is this, though: the rest of Toyota may not be so excited for this project.

What say you, SPIES?

Is a next-generation Supra what this company needs? Imagine if some of the 2011 Lexus LFA's technology trickled down into the next-gen Supra? Possibilities could be endless...

Toyota boss Akio Toyoda has given his approval to the development of a new Supra – but concedes there may be resistance within the company to the car.

Toyoda told journalists in Japan that he “wants to see the next Supra tested in the near future” but added that “even if one president says that we want to have a Supra again, the whole company is not going to be responding to that request....

R U being sarcastic?

It depends on what Toyota comes up w/. Now that S3000 is dead, there's a good chunk of market to fill.

Well, not me.

Z4, TT, Exige, Miata don't really compete. RX-8 and S2000 are gone and may not come back. You know I know both 370Z and Genesis need to trim weight up front for better cornering. Therefore, Supra can be really great if it is around 3000 lb w/ 50:50 distribution, 300+ hp from a turbo engine, and use a hydraulic steering. Now that Z4 gone up and soft, I'm hoping Z2 just might cut it.

I agree that Toyota needs this car to compete with with Nissan 370Z. I think it would re-energize the market. Mazda is stepping up to the plate with the new RX7. I wish they would keep the RX8 and re-engine it. The chassis is actually very capable. The tuners were restricted by the engine.

They don't have a competitor to Nissan's Z, so why not? Z has the entire market to itself right now.

Just make it 250lbs. lighter than the Z, PLEASE. You can increase performance better by lowering the weight rather than increasing power.
