Audi Putting An END To Misfueling TDIs

Audi Putting An END To Misfueling TDIs
One of my biggest problems while driving most contemporary diesel cars is when you get to the pump.

While I spend most of my time in the great state of New Jersey -- hang out in Alpine or Ridgewood, I am sure you'll forget all about the turnpike -- it is one of those rare birds that does not have self-serving fuel pumps.

So, essentially you rely on a random guy, usually jabbering on his cellular phone or half-wittingly paying attention, to follow the simple directions: "Please, fill it up with diesel."

Then the staring down process begins; will he pick up the right fuel filler? Is he going to reach for the regular gas pump?

I have never had an experience where I had to stop the attendant but I have had run ins where the attendant, looking stupified, asks "This is a diesel? Are you sure?"

Oh yeah, and they have screwed up my specific request for "Premium" for "Regular." Keeping this in mind, I would not be shocked to find gasoline in my diesel vehicle.

In turn this has led Audi to develop a new fuel filler cap that will prevent this situation from happening.

But if buyers are inadvertently filling up their own diesel vehicle with gasoline, I feel no sympathy for those fools...

Audi has developed a new fuel filler cap to stop owners accidently filling their diesel models with petrol.

Audi A4, A5 and Q5 TDI models for the 2011 model year will be the first to benefit from the new system.

The fuel filler neck has been redesigned to incorporate contact points that open an internal fuel flap only when the larger diesel pump nozzle applies pressure on them...

Whoa, do you live in Alpine? If so, I want to be an internet auto journalist, too! Or were you just "leering" at the houses there?

Few people know about that side of NJ except the rappers, Yankee celebrities, Wall Streeters etc who live there.

Clever usage of "leering..."

I just use the number's because most gas station attendants have not masters the "Ingles"language and it is easier for them to know 93!!! Since I have switched nomenclature I have not had a problem as my car has a chip in it and anything less than 93 would be an expensive problem...I would have to re-flash the ECU STAT and carry my Cobb tunning access port with me just in case I ahve to.

Hm, I guess I will try the "number method."

Good call, Penn.

This is big news? The BMW diesels have a special shaped filler neck as well to accept the diesel pump. There is a reason the diesel hose is shaped differently, so it doesnt fit! If Audi is having this problem, they must have designed it in a horrible way. Also, the BMW diesels come with a filler neck in case you go to a gas station that does not have the updated diesel hoses.

This is just going to lead to a lot of calls to Audi from customers complaining that they sometimes have trouble inserting the fuel nozzle into the car.
