Because of disappointing June sales, automakers are extending discounts while some are hiking rebates and enhancing loan terms on new cars and trucks.

Rising unemployment, job cuts galore in the government sector, global slowdown, and so it should come as no surprise that people in the middle class are not buying new cars, specifically the volume models: camry, accord, taurus, focus, civic, etc.

Let's see if I was facing economic uncertainty and I needed a car that works, but don't need a new car yet, why wouldn't I get a 4 year old Accord fully financed from Carmax for less than 50% of what I would pay new?
