FIRST Word: Jaguar Claims Its Building An Entry-Level, X-Type Replacement AND F-Type Roadster
It's just about official.
Jaguar will be producing an X-Type replacement and a "small sports car," according to our friends from across the pond at Autocar. Set to go up against the entry-level premium autos, the upcoming X-Type will definitely have its work cut out for it.
Last I checked, the 3-Series is downright KILLING the segment in sales.
What will Jaguar have to do differently to give the stiff competition a run for its money?
Jaguar has given the green light to replacement for the X-Type and the long-awaited ‘F-Type’ roadster, according to Tata Motors CEO Carl-Peter Forster.
Both models need to come in “several variations” he added.
Forster, talking to a German trade paper Automobilwoche, also said that an XF estate car was on the way, along with a long wheel base XF for the Chinese market...

I kind of thought the point of dropping the X-Type was to elevate the brand...

And, I love it.

Actually it was closer to a re-badged fusion/mazda6. Same platform anyway, and very similar engines.

The old X type was a massive failure and they should rename it something sexier like the Jaguar XEX. They should also buy an engine from another make to save on development costs then put the money in a proper double wishbone front suspension and multilink rear.

Will they bring back the station wagon? That was a genius move.

I love the rendering. It looks better than the current XK! Almost Aston-like.

The X-Type was a rebadged/re-engineered Ford Mondeo. It was a horrific disaster. Nice NAV unit at that time in the market though. AWD was standard and was the only car in it's class with it. It had two engine choices and the Sport was the best of them. But it was not in the same galaxy as the 3 Series.
The XE roadster is a good idea, but they need to build it with manual transmission or a dual-clutch if you want to be taken seriously. They will nail the styling. A new X-Type sounds good on paper but Ford found out too late that Jaguar at best is 120,000 units a year. So that is not a good way to go.

I would be interested to see what they come up with to go head to head with the 3 series and C class. They are producing such nice, and different styled cars now. That pic of the convertible is HOT
