SPIED: Is Hyundai's Veloster Going To Achieve What Honda's CR-Z Couldn't?

SPIED: Is Hyundai's Veloster Going To Achieve What Honda's CR-Z Couldn't?
Honda tried to do something that is unthinkable. Build a hybrid car that has sporty feel AND a manual transmission.

Problem is that the car achieves less than stellar mileage and it is slow as molasses, by contemporary standards.

Now, this is where Hyundai steps in. Undergoing development is its Veloster coupe, which has been taking up a lot of spotlight recently with new spy photographs. Now we're bringing you video of the car running around with a friend, the Volkswagen Scirocco -- you know, the cool VW we don't get.

I guess Hyundai is doing some benchmarking and is trying its best to produce a vehicle with a superb driving experience. Oh yeah, and Hyundai has said the car will be able to achieve over 40 MPG without the use of a hybrid powertrain.

With less than stellar reviews seen thus far, for the 2011 CR-Z, I think Honda better get a fire under its bum.

"Is Hyundai's Veloster Going To Achieve What Honda's CR-Z Couldn't?"...

Agreed!

You know the CR-Z is not that great when EVERY publication -- at least the ones I've read -- are having a hard time finding ANYTHING positive to write about it.

Just like what the Sonata achieved what the Accord could not achieve.

Honda is following Toyota with complacency. Hyundai is skipping by gleefully. The CR-Z is a fail, as is the Crosstour. The Civic needs a MAJOR update and soon and the Accord has been uninspiring for the last two generations. The Ridgeline is in the death pool and the Pilot oozes as a shadow of the Pathfinder (both boxy in this generation). The S2000 is also with the Ridgeline in the death pool and lets not forge the never changing but we add colors Element toaster. Add it all up and you get a pretty unexciting dealership experience.

I predict this can be a good solid winner that will nail the coffin int he CRZ and the not even put together FT-86 econo, Solara whatever it is NON sporty coupe.

If Honda would just make an Si version of the CR-Z, we would all be much happier.

Probably because they are giving the people new models that are stylish and different. Toyota has gone bland, Honda is right behind them. Chevy is still trying to figure out their budget while offering large V8s and not really putting effort into the Cruze as they should be, or the Volt for that matter. They seem to have drifted into forgotten already.

Nissan is getting bland with cars that all look the same and perform the same. It seems to me Ford is the only other company in the mainstream segments offering new and exciting cars. Note that exciting for someone else may be a new small car a la Fiesta with tons of features for the commute vs. a performance car M3.
