No offend, I think Hyundai is doing a really good job but I will NEVER trade my G coupe in for a Hyundai Genesis coupe. My next car is from the following list:

Aston Martin V8 Vantage
Audi S5
Audi R8
Lexus IS-F.

Either one of those is fine unless Toyota bring back the Toyota Supra and than I might consider getting that instead. Used or New does NOT matter.

Ok who with any logic cross shops those cars.... and considers an R8 or V8 vantage next steps from an entry level sports car....

I'm confused. Does the 'R' package get more power?

I've sat in one several occasions over the past month here in the Philippines. I beg to differ. You would be surprised how solid the interior is. I'm not taking anything away from the G as it is the reason of the Genesis Coupe's existence but it certainly gives you another option, a cheaper option.

What did the g37 beat the 335 in, being cheaper? It doesn't compete in that category. The G37 cant compete against the 335i/335iS, and has beaten the 335i in one test, though the 335i kicked its ass in every category....

The g37 is a slow disappointment. And the only g37 coupes that I have seen are on the dealer lots, I've seen two driven by women. That's it. So it must be a lot of them sold to low rent people in low rent places, states or counties. Or it's marketing hype.

lol the R-Spec package contains no performance improvements.

LOL, not sure in what universe it "thumped" the G37. The G37 goes against the base Mustang, Camaros, Eclipses, etc. It does not compete with the G37, especially sense it is way slower. The Hyundai is a decent low end sporty car. So people should stop trying to put it up against cars of which is clearly does not belong.

lol the irony of that statement is people say the same thing about the G37 and the class Infiniti "intends" for it to compete. Next to the 335i, S5, and E coupe it simply looks out of place and downmarket...

Even though I wouldn't buy one, it'd be cool if Hyundai threw in a V8 just for thrills.

right and the irony of that test is nobody else experience that hmmmm right...not to mention the G37 was simply a has been once other mags tested it against the 335i and while were quoting edmunds one said the 335i felt some $15,000 more than the G37 it just is that much better....., its hilarious you Infiniti guys always claim bias when someone saids the G37 just isnt up to par with the cars Nissan thinks it competes with yet the Genesis isnt good enough to compete with the G37 which the Genesis has beaten in test before thats laughable and biased....uh what a joke

He's right; who'd want to park an altima coupe twin next to a 335, and have the balls to call it a 'competitor'. It looks downmarket and not in the same class, period.

And while you're using the word ignorant, you may want to apply to yourself, or educate yourself: clearly youre unaware that the vq goes into limp mode when its oil gets too hot. At least with the 335 it's understanable, since it's forced-induced and that test was conducted in desert heat. But the vq is NA, so that sounds like poor engineering. Especially considering nissan forces you to buy your own aftermarket unit....

Lame, but what do you expect from a half-assed company like nissan, not known for proper engineering.

lol call my comment what you want but either way plenty of people agree with that, not to mention mags have said the same thing before its just not there...your delusional to think otherwise its interior is up to par its not as refined, its loud, its styling doesnt look upscale or premium any regard yet you trash the Genesis which just technically is on a more upscale platform than the Z based G37 is anyway being based on the same platform as an M competitor and an upcoming LS flagship competing car.....so lose the bias and instead of complaining to me tell Infiniti BMW, Mercedes, and Audi are in the business of making luxury premium performance cars not sports cars.....

The Hyundai Coupe essentially competes against Mustang,Camaro,Challenger. However it can also compete against any of the mid 20 grand FWD coupes such as the Acord and Altima. The 4 cylinder also competes against the VW GTI,Mini CooperS, Honda Civic Si etc.So there is a fairly wide spectrum of cars here depending upon the 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder car. The R version of both the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder have chassis enhancements above the normal coupes. The gain, therefore is in handling not straitline performance. The R does away with some of the luxuries such as Sat Nav,higher end leather finishings and best stereo etc. While the Hyundai coupe has been compared to the Infiniti G37 it is going to be lower rent reflecting it's subtantial lower price point. The Infiniti is going to be more refined but performance wise it is not significantly better then the Hyundai coupe.I think in R spec you could make a better comparison to the Base 370Z. The Z will probably out accelerate but the R pack on the Hyundai will probably stay with a base equipped Z in the corners. The Z needs the "track package" to be able to put some distance between it and the Hyundai. You have to give a lot of credit to Hyundai. They just entered the RWD frey last yr and have a very competative product. It is a fantastic value and certainly an alternative to any of the cars I've mentioned, especially in "R" spec.

can you show where it says the R-Spec has chassis upgrades? or is this speculation?

The G37 coupe and Sedan can smoke the Audi A5 sedan and coupe as well because the G37 has 332 hp and the A5 only has 265 hp. And they both way the about the same but the G37 has more torque lb/ft as well.

If only Nissan put many of the advance technology from the Nissan GT-R into the next Gen G37 sedan and coupe. And then it should be able to beat the BMW 3-Series in most comparison.

If you would read todays info on Left Lane news in the R Spec package, along with the 19" wheels and tires is a new "Camber Bolt" added
to the suspension. Further I can't remember if it was Motor Trend or Automobile magazine. One of them mentions this "new " camber Bolt on the suspension that apparantly makes world of difference in the cars steering and cornering ability. It is also on the 2.0 "R" Spec as well.

Road and Track 2010 Genesis vs 2009 G37. Agent 001 must have gotten his info from CBS.

Larry B.
Key West

Conclusion
"Premium price, premium performance...indeed, you get what you pay for. A very nicely executed coupe in all aspects...performance, aesthetics, interior materials, paint quality, details," said Kott in his succinct take on the G37. "Hyundai has really moved its Tiburon replacement upmarket, but it's no match for the Infiniti...but the shortfall is erased for the most part when you consider the Hyundai's price."
I also recognize the G37 as an outstanding car across the board — in terms of luxury, ride/handling, quality, interior ergonomics and so on. And it bests the Genesis Coupe tête-à-tête in the majority of categories. But if I were writing the check, a nearly 50 percent premium for the Infiniti is simply too steep for my blood. And for an even greater cost savings, I would be very keen to sample the 210-bhp turbocharged 4-cylinder version.
