VIDEO: Is Volvo Putting Itself At RISK With Its Safety Sytems?
Volvo's all-new S60 sedan certainly is a good looking vehicle for its class and it definitely has caught my eye.

One issue that seems to be reoccurring are some hangups with its latest technology. For example, during a presentation for journalists, the new S60s automatic braking system failed and it crashed into the back of a large truck.

Eh, we'll let it go. Perhaps it was a prototype malfunction or whatever else that could have the system bugged.

But, as we see with The Boston Globe's video, it appears that the S60s pedestrian safety system has encountered a problem where it may have been "confused," as Boston.com puts it.

So, we have a question:

Is Volvo putting its lean towards safety at risk with systems that may become confused or malfunction?

As we have seen with Toyota, there is a lot of damage control to be done when a brand has a failure related to its image.

Check out BOTH videos below with both S60s encountering problems.

Weigh in on the comments below...

Volvo, which in 2009 introduced the industry's first auto-braking feature on its XC60 crossover, has expanded the technology to detect pedestrians as well as cars. The original "City Safety" system uses laser sensors to detect slow-moving or stopped vehicles, and then measures that against driver input. If the driver isn't doing anything to avoid a collision, the car jabs the brakes and comes to a stop from up to 9 mph...

...We sampled it during a public demonstration at Boston Volvo Village in Brighton, and while it's just as startling as in the XC60 we tested last year, the pedestrian detection seemed to get confused in crowds. In the last few seconds of the video below, several onlookers are standing to the far left and right of the car, but the S60 plows ahead. When no one stood near the dummy, the system worked fine...

The first video with the bronze Volvo S60 is ancient.

This new pedestrian system failure is new.

So now, I can start texting and driving again. The car will drive itself. Hell some cars go by themselves, and other stop by themselves. What's next? And then stupid drivers wonder why...
