SPIED: Is This Baby Hyundai Sonata Going To Steal The New Focus' Spotlight?
Lookie what we have here. Why, it is a baby Hyundai Sonata!
It was only so long ago that Ford brought out their prototype 2012 Focus. And, it looks fantastic. Without question, it stole the 2010 Detroit Auto Show and made Ford the "hot" brand for what is largely considered the biggest event on the North American auto show circuit. But if you have not noticed lately, Hyundai has been making some moves.
Not only in terms of sales but also in regard to new, exciting products. Not only do they have something that we think will take down the 2011 Honda CR-Z but also check this out; the "baby Sonata," which was spied in some recent YouTube footage.
Take a look at the footage and let us know, is the 2012 Focus toast?

Just like new Tuscan, this car was also designed in Germany.

I think it looks great, but I bet its pretty short on headroom in the back, a problem the Focus should not have. The Ford should be more expensive, but probably has the features to back up the price. Hyundai has made some big moves, got to give credit where its due.

I like the direction Hyundai is going. They're taking measures but is very insistent in what they do. They are confident and will slowly gain market share. You will never hear me say this 5 years ago. Their designers are sketching up some great stuff. It puts Honda's to shame in the design department. OMG I can't believe I said that. Did I just?......

In terms of design and value, Hyundai is the new Honda. This car is another winner and Hyundai's share will continue to grow.

What I have to say is that if the Ford Focus does end up being the better car this generation, the Hyundai will end up getting just that much better the next gen after that. The Koreans are moving up the quality ladder at a pace that should alarm the big 3: this happened before to them with the Japanese and we all know they simply cannot afford to let this happen again. Likewise with Toyota; The accelerator issue should have served as the wake up call concerning their quality control problems, but they just hit the snooze button and this is the next alarm. If Mr.Toyoda doesn't get his shit together, well.....history is doomed to repeat itself and this time they're on the wrong side of the tidal wave.

I think this is the next generation Elantra. You know, Hyundai's entry level car. I really don't know why the Ford Focus is being the "focus" of this discussion. On its own merits this is a pretty snazzy small car. It used to be that econoboxes were just that. This small car actually has style and presence. Compared to the Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra and Honda Civic, it is very appealing.

Competition is always good so I think (and hope) that the Focus will be fine. Now, kudos to the Hyundai design department. Such a good job that you can almost identify their cars without a badge.

No! It is a decent car, but it won't take the spotlight.

All current econo cars are just that as said above by 222max. What companies are realizing is that commutes are getting longer, and people who travel and wants some type of economy without dabbling into a hybrid or crap box. These new generations will appeal as they have all their big brother options and perks which is a great thing.
Unfortunately Chevy is offering their version of the boring Corolla with the Cruze. A model that has been in other countries since 2007/08 that we are just getting here. And it is already an old and plain design in comparison to the others. Chevy missed the mark again big time by spending too much time on the Volt and forgetting about their other small cars.
And VW went way off base and is now offering a HUGER version of the baby Passa....err. Jetta. Way to lose your faithful.

The Focus will be purchased by "drivers". This Elantra will do well, though. Different buyers for each car. The new Civic better be something special or Honda will lose some market share to these two great cars.
