2011 Ford Explorer with 2.0l EcoBoost engine to deliver 26 mpg on highway
Ford’s 2011 Explorer model, which is equipped with the 2.0l EcoBoost engine, offers a 30% improvement in fuel consumption figures over the existing V6 units.

With that claim, we can easily estimate that this new Explorer can give 18 mpg city (13l/100 km), 26 mpg highway range as opposed to the average Explorer’s 14 mpg in the city (16l/100 km) and 20 mpg on the highway (11l/100 km). Ford is ahead of the game lately, and this is another example. I think Chrysler really dropped the ball in not offering a hybrid model on the new Grand Cherokee. They have the tech for a Hemi-hybrid, it's already been on sale in the Durango/Aspen Hybrids (co-developed with BMW/GM...see Escalade/X6 hybrid). The new JGC is a huge leap forward in every regard except fuel economy, which is the one factor that is most likely to limit its appeal.

Did you just put Jeep and Hybrid in the same sentence. Anyone shopping for a Jeep does not have fuel economy on the top of their list. They can go buy a Mini Countryman or a Honda CRV. If I worked at a Jeep dealer and someone came in asking me if the JGC had a hybrid or something of the like. I would laugh so hard as to piss myself all while tying them to the bumper of a JGC and dragging them off my lot.

I like the idea of a 4-cylinder, but a 2.0? Interesting. Ford is really taking big chances. Why not go for broke and offer a diesel, then? Now THAT would be a sure-fire way to get me into a Ford dealership. But I bet they're too panty-waisted to attempt it...

@ BSBB: Bronco?!? What are you trying to encourage with that idea? Another "low-speed police chase" in Los Angeles? Can't have that...it's too dangeous! For all we know this time around one of the policemen may get the floor mat stuck on the gas pedal, experience "unintended acceleration", call Eye-In-The-Sky for backup on the radio, and sit calmly and wait for his own demise. Hmmm...perhaps you're on to something after all...
