3 percent of Volkswagen’s global sales will be electric vehicles by 2018, says CEO
Volkswagen AG aims for its all-electric vehicles, which will be launched in 2013, to account for 3% of annual sales by 2018, according to CEO Martin Winterkorn. However, the share of e-vehicles in urban centers is expected to be “a lot higher.”

The VW Group, which will be led by VW brand, targets sales of over 10 million cars across the brands by 2018. In 2013, VW will launch a full-electric version of its Up minicar, the E-Up, the E-Golf and the E-Jetta. But before the arrival of these all-electric vehicles, VW will launch hybrids such as the Jetta Hybrid in 2012.

There seems to be no question that electric cars are coming to the masses. I wonder, though, what will happen to gasoline powered vehicle sales when more people learn and accept the fact that the CO2 emitted by automobiles pale in comparison to naturally occurring water vapor, the most powerful greenhouse gas. Many of us are still concerned about making our smartphones last through the entire day on a charge, I have no confidence in a whole electric car performing as it should. Nonetheless I agree that it is the way cars need to go, but don't be fooled..it's going to get a lot worse before it gets any better.
